Religion Should Be Taught In Schools

Imagine walking into school while wearing a religious necklace. You put your things away in your locker, say hi to your friends, and walk to your first period class. The teacher gives you a skeptical look as you sit down, and then calls you out in front of the whole class. The teacher then tells you that you need to take your necklace off, because it is religious. You grudgingly remove your necklace that symbolizes the things you believe in, and the religion that makes you whole. Nobody should have to go through anything as humiliating and unjustful as this. It just isn’t right. Nobody should have to hide their religion just because they are at school. It’s no different than being at the movies or at the store. All students deserve to express their religion at school.

I’m being serious. If you see a student praying before they eat during lunch, you won’t die. It’s the student’s right to pray during school, as long as it is not disruptive. An example of this would be during passing time in the hallway. Pretend one student dramatically gasps, “Oh! It’s time to pray!” and then kneels in the middle of the hallway, causing several students to trip. That’s not ok, but quietly praying before a test or before class is just fine. Even verbal prayers are fine, as long as they are not distracting. Verbal prayers are ok because they are not going to direct every single students attention to that one child praying. If, however, the student is screaming their prayer, it’s ok for a teacher to tell them to lower their voice. I think most religious students are ok with being able to pray as long as it is quiet, because they are still allowed to pray. If a teacher catches them praying and tells them to stop, even when it is quiet, that’s a problem because now they are interfering with the student’s legal
