In Safe Haven, by Nicholas Sparks, I predict Katie and Alex will grow a loving relationship with each other. Readers are introduced to Katie as an isolated individual with a troubling past and an inability to trust, but after meeting Alex she was able to let down her guard. As of now, Katie and Alex are friends, but with Alex’s personality and the trust he's trying to grow with Katie, I believe Katie and Alex will start to grow a relationship with each other. For a long time, Katie hasn’t felt at ease, but with Alex she was able to finally be comfortable. “There was tenderness in the way he treated them, a depth of patience… she found herself smiling at the thought that for the first time in many years, she felt completely relaxed.” (Sparks

In The Chosen, Potok describes the Jewish culture during the period of World War I. Beginning with the affluence of Polish Jews before the war, Potok established a circle of relationships. In the book, there are three main relationships. The first one is father-son, between Danny and his father, Reb Saunders and between Reuven and his father, David Malter. The relationship between Reuven and Danny is the second main relationship in The Chosen. The third main relationship is Hasidism verses Zionism.
“All right, but you said we had to put emotion into our art. I don’t know what that means. I don’t know what I’m supposed to feel.”(p122). This quote is from the third marking period when Melinda was talking to her art teacher, Mr. Freeman. I believe she wouldn’t have said anything had it been earlier in the year.
Love waxes timeless. It is passionate and forbidden, and a true head rush. Marriage, on the other hand, is practical and safe, a ride up the socioeconomic ladder. In "The Other Paris," Mavis Gallant weaves the tale of Carol and Howard, a fictional couple who stand on the verge of a loveless marriage, to symbolize the misguided actions of men and women in the reality of the 1950s, the story's setting. By employing stereotypical, ignorant, and uninteresting characters, Gallant highlights the distinction between reality and imagination.
Every person knows of someone who has been uprooted from their hometown and moved somewhere else. I was moved from my home and if I had the choice I would have went anywhere else then there. What if you had the choice to stay or go. One drop of blood and you could seal your fate. Veronica Roth has the power to pull you in and trap your mind in her Divergent series. Her main characters Tris Prior and Tobias Eaton, Four to his friends, develope in the book they show familiar characteristic to my life and decisions I 've made or would make. “Now is the time to cry to your heart’s content,” The doctor said in a soporific voice. “Tears are the best medicine.” Maria unburdened herself without shame, as she had never been able to do with her casual lovers in the empty times that followed lovemaking… This was, for the first time in her life, the miracle of being understood by a man who listened to her with all his heart and did not expect to go to bed with her as a reward. Love is a very complicated feeling. When someone is in love they tend to do things they wouldn’t normally do, they usually block out the rest of the world and only focus their attention on the person whom they have feelings for. In the poem “On the inside” from the book The Realm of Possibilities the author Megan, explains the love triangle she is currently in which gives the idea that falling in love is inconvenient when the person you are in love with is oblivious towards your feelings. The author portrays feelings of sadness which implies that the author’s point of view toward love is negative. This is further elaborated when Megan describes all she does for her best friend, when her best friend doesn’t realize she’s the one who Megan is
“At first I thought what I was feeling was just exhaustion, but with it came an overriding sense of panic that I had never felt before. Rowan kept crying, and I began to dread the moment when Chris would bring her back to me. I started to experience a sick sensation in my stomach; it was as if a vise were tightening around my chest. Instead of the nervous anxiety that often accompanies panic, a feeling of devastation overcame me. I hardly moved. Sitting on my bed, I let out a deep, slow, guttural wail. I wasn’t simply emotional or weepy, like I had been told I might be. This was something quite different. In the past, if I got depressed or if I felt sad or down, I knew I could counteract it with exercise, a good night’s sleep, or a nice dinner with a friend. If PMS made me introspective or melancholy, or if the pressures of life made me gloomy, I knew these feelings wouldn’t last forever. But this was sadness of a shockingly different magnitude. It felt as if it would never go away ( "Brooke's Story." Brooke's Story. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 May 2014). That is an excert from the testimony of Brooke Shields the Actress and survivor of Postpartum Depression.
... ease her with the warmth of my body, to support her with the strength of my arms. But she did not expect this from me, and I did not give it.”
One can always learn from their anxiety, by not backing down to the situation and just face them. Therefore, James Collier had some challenges for his anxiety, but he had progressed. He was learning from his anxiety to make him better, to control it. In fact, Collier said, “You can’t learn if you don’t try.” When Collier had been in college one of his roommates wanted him to go with him to a ranch in Argentina. Collier began to think, he has never been to far from New England. Day after day he began to have night sweats he didn’t know what was going to happen on this trip. He eventually turned it down. On the other hand, he went back to his old job and realized that he turned it down going to a ranch because of the fact he got scared. In the event of Collier not taking the trip to Argentina in years. Years had passed Collier had been offered a writing assignment that would require three months in Europe. He began to think and he didn’t know his way around Europe. He didn’t know about their culture and don’t know how to speak the language. Collier began to over think about the assignment and ended up accepting the trip. Collier came back from the trip to Europe. He had learned that he is an experienced traveler. For that being Collier never hesitated to head to any other place. As a result of Phil embracing the shake and Collier not being anxious anymore. I have had an embracing
At the beginning like listed above was a very dark and scary time, but when Katie arrives in North Carolina with a whole new look things start to completely change. Katie tries to stay determined on not having personal ties to anyone. Katie meets Alex(Josh Duhamel)(1), a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and her single neighbor, Jo(Cobie Smulders)(1). Alex immediately starts to like Katie, Alex would always try to do nice things for Katie because Alex was just that kind hearted. Katie starts to put her guard down and also starts to take a liking to Alex. They went on a 'family' trip to the beach, and Alex asks Katie to go canoeing, after which, they had started to really fall in love with each other. Lexie (which is Alex’s daughter) immediately accepts Katie, while Josh(Alex’s son) is initially resistant, believing Katie to be his late mother's replacement, but eventually accepts her as well. Everything seems to be going well, but as soon as Katie takes her guard down, who knows what could
It’s 10:30am and Janice, Alex’s mother, receives a phone call. “Hi Janice, this is Mrs. Smith calling with regards to Alex. Yes, he isn’t having a good day. He has been very disruptive this morning. We tried calling down Alex’s older sister to calm him down, and to talk to him, but he wouldn’t calm down. Would you please come and get him?”
...ules they had before where he did whatever Emma told him to do. In a sense they are fusing and becoming one, they will sacrifice selfish rules and come one that works for both of them. After breakfast, they head back to Santa Barbara for Katie’s wedding, and surprisingly they are holding hand.
The statement "The relationships in our lives are one of the main reasons why we function as human beings.” In this text About a Boy by Nick Hornby there are elements where relationships between characters help them develop and without these relationships these characters would not be able to 'grow'. The relationship between will and Marcus and also the relationship between Marcus and Ellie proves how relationships in our lives are the reason that we function as human beings.
