Overcoming Doubt: My First Job Experience

Once a year ago, I applied for my first job at South Texas College. I wanted to help my parents pay bills, and acquire job experiences. At first it was difficult because I was not aware of jobs, so as I applied I had self-doubt about getting hired. After all many jobs required experience, communication skills, and most commonly in the Rio Grande Valley Spanish. I did not have these important skills on what an employee is looking for. Secondly, I felt as though I did not try hard enough on the application because I had a negative mentality. Eventually, to my surprise six months later I get a call for an interview. I was extremely nervous because I did not know what to expect during an interview, but

This made it difficult for me to assist them because my weakness is Spanish I do not understand nor speak in that language. I am thankful I made many friends in that job because they helped me when I did not understand something or when it came to speaking Spanish. I learned many things from my employees as well as my supervisors. Eventually this job had to come to an end, it began to affect my health. I could not do my school work and my job at the same time. I was beginning to stress out and I wasn’t eating right, I was focused on school and work more than my own self. I did not come home six in the evening because of how long the drive was and the traffic. Additionally, gas is expensive going back and forth from Alamo to McAllen. Even though I had to resign from this job I enjoyed my time there, I made many friends and acquired many job skills. It was the greatest accomplishment I achieved, and this is just the beginning of becoming an adult. I cannot wait to experience more jobs in the future and maybe one day come back to this job I once
