Reflection Statement
I think the school is taking the “easy road” and doesn’t want to be liable for anything therefore they make all these rules that prohibit anyone on campus to have fun. The campus is becoming more and more unbearable by the moment. On the weekends it is so boring there is no one here except a whole lot of public safety. That is why people enjoy them selves and use substances, but the university doesn’t look at any of these aspects realistically. The university is living in the 1950’s and very ideal 1950’s at that. The policies are so dated it isn’t funny. Not being able to have a member of the opposite sex in your suite sounds like something out of a Mormon school. What is the university afraid of…………that the kids (I mean to say students but that how the university looks at them) are going to have sex? The students are all 18 and over who cares. It isn’t like the kids can’t have sex before 2 am and after 10 am. That’s such a weak rule and position. I cant even come up with a reason why they made that one other than to reign down on the students with a little life inhibiting catholic morality which in itself is rather foolish. But back to the alcohol rule…that’s just there because the university doesn’t feel like being responsible for students who are drunk. That’s college and there is no way they will stop it so I think the university should decriminalize it. It should be if you’re under 21 you should be written up. Why wait until your in graduate school to let someone drink. I will be a 21-year-old junior and your going to tell me I can’t drink. That’s not agreeing with me.
Further more I think this reflection paper is stupid because I feel like I am being treated like a child. If I have not been found in violation why in the hell am I being forced to type a 3-page paper? I have more important things to do like hang out, school work, and things that don’t require me to write stupid papers. This is just childish. Since you guys couldn’t fine me on anything you guys could not let me go could you. You had to get that last word or to say that you somehow got over on me.

Sex and drinking is one of the sins the Catholic Religion won’t tolerate. If the students attend to a Catholic School they’re supposed to obey the rules by following them. At time the other parents will speak out against the School allowing the students to drink and have sex. Not all teen were a condom when they have sex. Some teens can either catch aids or pregnancy at a very young age. Due to the complaints from the parents, Hoagland could also lose his position as the principal of the Catholic High School.
On December 2,2015 I went to to the Lynnhaven building to receive some feedback on my agreement paper for English 111. It was a very rainy day after running through the rain when I reached the writing center room. There was a yellow note saying that the writing center was in the student center until December 4,2015. After reading the note I ran back in the rain to my car.It was to cold to walk it was raining. As I approached the student center I was told by a security guard that the tutoring lab was located on the third floor. I had walked up three flights of stairs. When I had finally reached the third floor,I walk into the tutoring lab. There were about eight tables, but only four staff members and one student. Amen had approached me asking what did I need help with today. I replied saying that I would like some feedback on my paper for English. He then pointed to the writing table and said “she can assist you with your paper”.
The customs that college students go through are mostly a result of the environment they live in. The walls of college sports arenas everywhere have advertisements from alcohol industry sponsors somewhere, even if it is in the smallest area, it is still visible. Magness Arena does not have advertisements on the walls but they do sell beer to students. I have seen many students that go to University of Denver get alcohol when at a game. Local establishments near campus that serve or sell alcohol, depend on the college clientele for their financial success. College student drunkenness is far from new and neither are college and university efforts to control it. What is new, however, is the potential to make real progress on this age-old problem based on scientific research results. New research-based information about the consequences of high-risk college drinking and how to reduce it can empower colleges and universities, communities, and other interested organizations to take effective action. Hazardous drinking among college students is a widespread problem that occurs on campuses of all sizes and geographic locations. A recent survey of college students conducted by the Harvard University School of Public Health reported that 44 percent of respondents had drunk more than five drinks (four for women) consecutively in the previous two weeks. About 23 percent had had three or more such episodes during that time. The causes of this problem are the fact that students are living by themselves no longer with parents or guardians; they earn their own money; students need to be a part of a group, be accepted; and they have the wrong idea that to feel drunk is “cool.”
However, the drinking age does not cause problems in colleges. In fact, “college environments that afford easy access to low-cost alcohol, have few policies restricting accessibility to alcohol, and have lax enforcement of existing policies create the conditions for heavy drinking among college students” (Wechsler and Nelson). The problem of alcohol is not that there is an age restriction, it’s the easy access of alcohol. In recent studies by U.S News and World Report, college campuses are turning off the tap. In other words banning alcohol entirely. One of the reasons for the banning of alcohol on campus is due to the outstanding reports of alcohol related incidents that have taken the lives of students. A while back I was involved in a small gathering in my own dorm room where the consumption of alcohol was taking place by many college students under the legal drinking age limit. Although I was not drinking, the fact that I was socializing and allowing this to take place in my room put me under the position of a facilitator. This position is just as problematic as if I were to actually consume alcohol myself. The residential life handbook states that alcohol consumption in the dorms must involve only people above the legal drinking limit and may only be done behind closed doors in the dorm room. The reason for this rule is the topic at hand.
The movie “The Class Divided” was a very inspirational movie because it taught a lesson on discrimination and racism. The film covers Jane Elliot experience with the “eye-color” exercise and it shows how the participants responded to being a victim of discrimination. The teacher who came up with the exercise was a third grade –teacher that wanted to explain to her kids the reasons behind Martin Luther King death. She divided each class she taught up by their eye color and treated them according to whatever eye color was more superior that day. Her lesson influenced and inspired the younger kids and older adults because it taught them a life learning lesson that could stick with them for years to come.
I am writing this essay to represent my knowledge of the current school residential rules and regulations that I have broken on multiple occasions. I was told to write this essay due to my lack of education on the rules regarding residential life guest and visitation, residential lif noise quiet hours violations, residential life keys and registration, and residential life compliance which lead to me breaking the rule on campus. On November 18th, 2015, the UMBC peer review council met to hear my case arising from my November 4, 2015 charge letter. Here I was found guilty for all the charges against me. On this campus, my main focus should be to do well in my classes and learn from my experiences. Causing trouble throughout residential buildings should not be a part of any of the action that I have came to school for. To show my understanding of the rules and regulations that I have broken I will state the rules I have went against and show I have went against them, I will also state the consequences given to me and show how these incidents have affected my life on campus directly.
Should IPU totally ban alcohol on campus? Some student finds it is hard to answer that question, and most of male student would answer “it does depend on the situation and the mood bro.”. It is not a secret that alcoholic drinks could make a person feel better and more relax especially for a man, if he experiencing depression or stress males often hangout with their friend to overcome their struggle, even I used to drink alcohol sometimes whenever I had problems with my school life, relationship or if I fell under pressure. Even though alcoholic drinks can have some temporary stress relieving benefit, alcohol has plenty of bad side effects for individual and their social environment. Most Universities ban alcoholic drinking on their campuses, but some campus still allow student to drink alcohol in designated areas or for certain events, like our beloved IPU campus for example. Beside the fact that IPU already provide events (e.g. Ball party) that allow student to drink certain amount of alcohol, it is still common for students to break the rules by drink alcohols in the dormitories. Therefore this essay will cover the pro’s and con’s that will be discussed about this topic.
College, a place once populated by contemplative students, has experienced an unexpected twist over the past few years: 1,825 deaths, 599,000 injuries, 696,000 assaults, and 97,000 cases of sexual abuse (College Drinking ). These are such drastic numbers, but there is only one reason for all these corrupted acts of society: alcohol. Abusing the privileges of alcohol corrupts students’ mind, intellectually and socially.
I headed out to the kitchen to get breakfast that my mom cooked for me. Then, I noticed a blank sheet of paper. A naked, colorless, blank sheet of paper situated there on the kitchen table. Boy did I love to draw unusual things on blank pieces of scrap paper, so I thought. Luckily there was that snaggy old pencil of mine lying there, laying right where I needed it to be, by the paper. I quickly picked up the pencil and started to think. Again, my brain worked its way back in the past thinking of the school policy. Telling me what not to do, increased my ignorance to do the inevitable. How dare the school policy tell me what to do, “No threatening of school members or staff.”
