Since my lab class of nursing practice in Ontario 1 (IEPN 125) has started, I learned about some medical devices and nursing practices which were different from my previous nursing experience, for example we did not have syringes with safety cap (needles with protective cap) in my work place.

Objective Recall In my back home we just had syringes without safety cap at the hospital, so lots of my peers experienced needlestick injuries. These injuries could occur at any time when nurses use, disassemble, or dispose of needles. I was injured by contaminated needles at least three times as I remember. Now, I understand that I should do each nursing procedure based on its standard guideline and make my work environment safe. I know without using the safe devices I will be at risk of injuries. I also understand that I need to be knowledgeable and responsible for my safety. This experience change my way in practice as make me aware of negative effects of lack of knowledge. Based on my reflective learning, I will be more careful about occupational hazards and unsafe medical devices in the future. I also will prevent needlestick injuries by using the syringes with the safety cap. My learning needs according to this experience are getting knowledge about the possible risks and outcomes of using unsafe devices, occupational hazards and maintaining safety, using of the protective devices and preparing a safe work environment. In order to achieving these goals I should take part in some workshops, learn the guidelines, watch videos, read articles and books related to my goals in a specified time
