1) General thoughts and feelings regarding the course. I really enjoyed taking this course, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot on the subject of adolescent psychology. I also enjoyed getting to read my classmates thoughts and opinions on the subjects that we covered over the duration of this course. I think this course gave me the opportunity to reflect on my adolescence and allowed me to see and understand it in a new light. I also feel that I have a better understanding of adolescence and why we make the choices we make during this time of our lives. 2) Discuss 3 course concepts that will be permanently etched in your mind. One concept that I will always remember is sibling deidentification, which is when siblings try to be different from each other (Steinberg, 2014, p.137). The reason for this is that I have three siblings and I remember that the four were always trying to establish ourselves as our own person while denying that we in fact had many similarities. This period of their lives is one filled with many changes and emotions, so I feel that it is important that somebody is there to listen to what they have to say. I think it is important during this time for adolescents’ feelings to not be disregarded or invalidated. Another way that I think I can help is by making good decisions, or at least try to. I think if I do that then the younger people around me can see what good can come from taking care of yourself and making responsible decisions. A third thing that I can do is be honest with the young people in my life. I think it can be very beneficial for them to hear about my experiences when I was their age and not sugarcoating it.
