Although the government has taken a few steps towards reconciliation, through public apologies, visiting the reserves and initiatives to help the victims, a lot of their effort has not focussed on improving the conditions Aboriginals face today, so that the past is forgotten. While programs like the mental health and emotional support services funded by the government to allow former students to recover from the shock they had faced have had beneficial effects, they do not pay heed to the impacts events, such as the residential schools, have had on the generations which follow.
