Focus and Purpose of Reality Winner’s Case A 25- year old woman named Reality Winner was charged with a $250,000 fine for committing a felony and facing 10 years in federal prison. She leaked classified documents from the government. There were two articles that released information on what happened regarding Winner’s arrest. One article titled, "Don't Leak Lightly”; Sharing Classified Information is Risky, Even if it's in the Public, was published by The Baltimore Sun. The second article titled, "NSA LEAK INVESTIGATION”: Suspect in NSA Leak Faces was published by The Atlanta Journal. Even though both of the articles were published on June 9, 2017, they discuss different points about Reality Winner’s arrest. Although both articles discuss the case of Reality Winner, there are differences in the focus and purpose of the two articles. …show more content…

“Don’t Leak Lightly”, focuses on why she had committed the crime many reasons why but the main were she was anti-Trump so she wasn’t a fan of Donald Trump at all she wanted to help out others too and tell them the truth. As also on the “Don’t Leak Lightly” article it does state that Winner twitter account she did tweet some anti-Trump tweets like NotMyWall, NotMyPresident and etc, so she was very anti-Trump. Tricia Bishop the author of this article does go on saying that she wanted to expose the government just because she wants the world to know the truth behind these documents. NSA Leak Investigation the second article focused on Reality Winner’s life the background as in what she does for living. She was a nice person never hurt anyone nothing just a regular person, there were two authors for this article Jeremey Redmon and Johnny Edwards. They both mostly wrote about why she did this crime what was the point to of it. And that she shouldn’t be charged with 10 years in federal jail it should be less and she was only trying to do right for the

    The Cindy Herbig case revolves around the distinguished Herbig family from Missoula, Montana. The Herbig’s daughter Cindy, who did well enough in high school to obtain a scholarship to Radcliffe College, was killed in Washington D.C. while working as a prostitute. The controversy of this case comes from the way that the Missoulian and the Post reported on this story. Both newspapers were aware of the family’s status and the damage that this story would do to the family’s name. The Post published this story because they believed that it would both bring attention to the problem of prostitution in the D.C. area and their primary business concerns. The main editor of this paper stated that journalists will always have to release stories when they are newsworthy even if they are negative stories.
