The artist I decided to chose was Ramon Ayala’s interpretation of ‘Tragos Amargos’, which means bitter shots of liquor. The composer of, “Tragos Amargos” is composed by two writers Freddie Martinez and Jesse Salcedo. I decided to chose this song in particular because I have heard many of my family members drink to this song. As I heard this song, a flash of memories popped up from the lyrics of the song. For me, I have been surrounded by this song more compared to the other songs in the list, so I decided to go with track 23. The way Ramon Ayala sings the song, he makes the song sound depressing. His vocal formation is deeper, he stresses the note of the lyrics making the song sound remorseful. In addition, the artist makes his voice sound remorseful because the tone of his singing style and with the combination of the lyrics together makes the overall sound become emotional. The man feels abandoned in a corner and he drinks for the sadness he feels. While drinking, he tells himself I do not understand why you left me, if I know she loved me, so if you ever regret your decision he will be waiting for you. Basically, the man feels broken emotionally because the women he loved, left him for no reason. This song to me is not a dancing song, however the song is more about remembering your ex-wife, ex-girlfriend or ex husband and ex-boyfriend. Ester Hernandez is a Chicana artist, best known for her works of Chicana women. Ester’s goal is to recreate women’s lives to produce positive images of women’s lifestyle and to create icons. Her piece, Frida y Yo, contains the iconic painter Frida Kahlo. Frida, after being in multiple accidents causing long-term pain and suffering, began painting, mostly self-portraits, to portray her reality and glorify the pain. Similar to how Hernandez's goals are a juxtaposition to Frida’s artwork, the art piece Frida y Yo creates a juxtaposition between life and suffering and death and fortune.
Miguel Castaneda is the narrator and main character of the story “We Were Here”. Miguel is a young teenager from Stockton, California. He is dark complected because of his Mexican background but he does not have the personality to do the work like that of his Mexican relatives. I know this because in the story it says, “Told us we might be dark on the outside, but inside we were like a couple blonde boys from Hollywood.” He is very different from the rest of his family in terms of being able to handle situations that are put in front of him and completing the task at hand.
Clorinda Matto de Turner's novel Aves sin nido was published in July 1889. It's release caused great controversies amongst intellectuals; some praising it for its accurate portrayal of Peruvian life, such as the then-president Andrés Avelino Cáceres who wrote a letter of praise to Matto de Turner saying that her novel had stimulated him to pursue much needed reforms, and others condemning it for its social critique of the national model of Peru and for its anticlerical tone. But no matter whether praising or condemning Matto's most famous novel there is no denying that the novel is based around the idea of the native culture of Peru.

In the essay of Mr.Gary Soto, Like Mexicans, we learn about his experiences about falling in love with someone of a different race.Gary’s grandmother would always proclaim: “... the virtues of marrying a Mexican girl: first, she could cook,second, she acted like a woman” (pp.219). Being conditioned into the notion that all Mexican women have been trained to be proper women, Mr. Soto set out on finding his brown eyed girl; however, what love had quite a different plan. As He explains, “ But the woman I married was not Mexican but Japanese” (pp.220). Though he searched to find his Mexican wife, fate had other plans for him. Paula Gunn Allen was an American Indian Poet that was the middle child of five siblings. She grew up on the Cubero Land Grant Reservation in New Mexico where she started her early education at St. Vincent Academy, followed by attending Missions School until the seventh grade at San Fidel in Pueblo town. She furthered her education by attending Colorado’s Woman’s College. Paula obtained her B.A. in 1966 and her M.F.A. in 1968 at the University of Oregon, that led to her receiving her Ph. D at the University of New Mexico in 1976. Paula was best known as the best Poetic, Novelist, and Critic. She wrote six volumes of poetry including her poem Recuerdo.
The father moves from side to side like waltzing, but in reality, I believe this is for his drunken condition. The child and the mother are dealing with his father’s alcoholism, which looks that the mother doesn’t care anymore about her family. I can easily perceive the child’s and the mother’s feelings and their unhappiness if instead of spending a great time with him, they are experiencing somehow abandon of the persons who supposed to be the strongest in their family and giving the best sample to them. “Then Waltzed me off to bed” (line 15) and “Still clinging to your shirt” (line 16) these two phrases are highly critical view of the fact that the child still sticks to his father no matter how dangerous his father is the child loves his “papa”. I can personally relate this song to my past relationship with a guy of 2 years. We had many rough patches while we were together. There were things in the relationship that I can never erase; yet I feel as though I will never fully let him go. He's still trying so hard to get me back and I'm taking advantage of it. I get many mixed emotions about him and the thought of starting up the relationship again. The hardest part is that he's the only person I truly feel I can completely be myself around.
