Ralph Waldo Emerson stated that, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, and to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” It is right to have a heart that would continually give to others, because not only are you helping changing someone lives but, you are also helping yourself in doing such a genuine act. Helping others brings good feelings to the giver and the receiver of the good deeds. Using your special gifts to help others can be a gift to yourself as you enjoy a self-esteem boost for making others' lives better, and make the world a better place. You feel more worthy of good deeds yourself, your trust in the decency of people is reinforced, and you feel more connected to yourself and to others.
The Bible teaches us that Christians are to be generous, loving, merciful and self-sacrificing. Our private sector promotes the public good by creating the prosperity we all desire, by working to ensure that all have an opportunity to benefit, and by responsibly assisting those who need help” (Michael E. Hartmann, 95). Being an immigrant to this country have open my eyes and made me aware of the opportunity that is handed to me and help me be more understanding and value things more. I find it hard to believe that some people are actually abusing something, such as financial aid, that is of a great help to them. In my country student have to pay for college with their own money and they would kill to have such a wonderful opportunity. I definitely believe in helping people in needs but if we see it’s becoming a chronic life pattern its wrong for us to continue to encourage
