Lord of the Flies is a well written book by William Golding, published in 1954. In the book, a group of boys get stuck on an island; no one knowing where the survivors, the boys, were. The boys all differ from one another, being a very particular type of person. Within the story, Jack, Ralph, and Piggy (the main characters) have many differences. Each boy has a certain stereotype they pertain to. For example, Piggy is the type of boy that mainly shows the characteristic of being logical, using intelligence, and thinks before starting actions. Ralph is the type of kid who does what he needs to get done to get further on to figuring out what else he needs to do in order to complete the task. Ralph is not a bad guy, in fact, he has been one of the only characters that was sensible and sane through most of the book. If Piggy was in Ralphs situation, Piggy would most likely have an easier time working out the problems. This evidence helps show the diversity among the two characters through showing their strengths and weaknesses. Although Ralph had some really low points, he still was a confident boy. The text states, “‘Who’s boss here?’ ‘ I am,’ said Ralph loudly.”(Golding 285) This supports the fact that Ralph was a better choice as a leader than the others because of his confidence and social awareness. To wrap it up, Ralph helped the island in his own way of having a sense of actualization, and puts his best effort to get everyone out …show more content…

Golding did a great representation of societal pressure, and how people can demolish others mentally and physically. The main conflict that affected this situation was about who had the best mindset to be a leader. Ralph struggled with this because he doesn’t have the correct leadership skills to lead the group in the right direction, causing the societal pressure by his peers. But throughout the book, all the boys have had their positive happy times, which helped them out in their own way. The downside for this situation is that if they don’t positively work together through the pressure, the negativity will cause opposing factors; as shown in the text. There are many potential messages to this book, but in this situation, the message of this book is to know that societal pressure can change who your are on the inside and out. In essence, Lord of the Flies shows how peers can pressure people to change the way they are from within, and to overcome it, they must stand up for
