Race and ethnicity are sometimes thought of as the same thing, but they are actually not synonyms at all. The idea of race is more rooted in biology and more recently, genetics, while ethnicity is a cultural feature. Both of these concepts are major forces in everyday life because they both have social implications. The concept of race is essentially overt and biological.
