Aaron’s Quality Project Reflection My essential question was, “How is math useful in my everyday life?” This essential question led to two sub questions: “What personality traits do I gain from doing math?” and “How can math help me prepare and get into college?” I explored this question by doing numerous math problems, and I learned new concepts such as matrices, vectors, and the polar coordinates. I learned a myriad of new qualities about myself as I worked on these problems. For example, I discovered that I enjoy solving difficult problems rather than easy problems as I enjoy the challenge of difficult problems, and I feel content after solving a difficult problem because I didn’t expect to solve it. I also realized that my time management …show more content…

I was obliged to spend countless hours reading sections in order to fully understand them. Nevertheless, the book was helpful in explaining matrices and vectors, which were a key component of the SAT math subject test. One goal I didn’t meet was reading both of the Art of Problem Solving books that I bought. I finished the first book because it focused more on the basics of math, but the second book delved deeper into the concepts that were introduced in the first book and touched upon concepts introduced in Calculus. As a result, the text was difficult to follow and I couldn’t read more than the first few chapters. In the next few years, though, as I advance to higher levels of math, I will hopefully reread the second Art of Problem Solving book. Another challenge that I faced was finding a way to quantify all the new concepts I learned. I wasn’t proud of the binder that I turned in because I don’t believe that it looked aesthetically pleasing. Accordingly, my peers probably thought that I hadn’t spent a great deal of time making it. However, I first spent a few hours brainstorming and talking to my friends about different ways that I could showcase everything I learned. I decided to concoct a binder with pictures of the concepts I learned and all the AMC practice tests I took because people will be able to see all my work as opposed to just reading about it. Moreover, I added all the AMC practice tests that I took, but they all appear to be papers filled with scratch work that could’ve taken a few minutes. However, in reality, each test took one hour and 30 minutes to complete. One of my feats that facilitated the success of my Quality project was always logging the hours I spent immediately after I finished reading pages in my book or doing practice problems. This constant process helped to organize my work and made sure that my hours were
