Five Paragraph Paper How important is it to not only pursue an education but to strive for excellence, and achieve leadership skills as a student here at Colorado Christian University? During the process of attending college, the idea of establishing educational goals and aspiring towards success in college will be challenging nonetheless rewarding. Planning an educational goal through Christ is preparing the way towards fulfilling a personal call with Christ. I desire to serve well and excel beyond my own understanding as a professional college student. I will focus on the quality of my work and maintain the right attitude towards instructive success. Gordon Smith, the author of the book Courage and calling, enunciates, “The genuine love of excellence is rooted in a desire to serve well. Further, because it comes from the hand of God, we, therefore, offer it back to God as our act of thankful worship.” (Smith, 2011, p. 114) To demonstrate ambition towards my academic performance is an important part of being a professional college student. My ultimate accord is that leadership through Christ is the idea of being a role model of a Christ-shaped leadership. Statement of faith at Colorado Christian University, n.d., “We Believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God”, to accomplish my goal in Christian leadership I will study biblical scripture and encourage the importance of truth in accordance with God’s word. The ability to guide, direct and lead others with love into the path of righteousness is my idea of performing God’s work in accordance with his words. To establish my foundational principles of leadership is my core focus throughout my educational experience here with CCU. I aspire to surpass in every aspect of my life with Christ, to learn and grow spiritually and empower others through Christ. I just feel that God speaks the Gospel directly to my heart.     The path I have taken toward obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Management, and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing, has been different than I expected when I first started college. I started at Brooklyn College at 17-years-old and frankly, I wasn’t ready for it. I struggled to balance an awkward schedule of classes and inconsistent study habits. I never felt completely comfortable there and after two years of performing poorly, I enrolled at Kingsborough Community College. I viewed it as a new start and seized the opportunity. I decided to major in Business Administration; I made the Dean’s List, and saw my grades improve dramatically. After completing 74 total credits, I decided I was ready to return to a four-year-college. I initially considered returning to Brooklyn College but at this time my grandmother had become ill. I applied to the College of Staten Island which was near her home and would make it possible for me to help her out with whatever she needed and attend school locally. This worked out great for my first semester. I carried a 3.47 GPA and decided to major in Business, with a concentration in Marketing. At this time, I was working part-time while in school. But due to certain circumstances, I was forced to obtain a full-time job in addition to other part-time commitment. This made it very difficult for me to enroll in classes as most of the upper-level marketing classes that I needed for graduation were only offered during the day when I would now be working. I enrolled in night and weekend classes for the next two semesters but my grades began to suffer.
