By gaining a higher wage you have the ability to provide and care for your family and self. To me this means that I will be able to provide my children with the ability to gain a higher education and provide a stable healthy environment for them to continue it in. If more individuals would continue educations after high school for better careers with higher wages, this would also change the poverty level and change the lives of children being raised on welfare. Hopefully changing the prospective of young adults on the benefits of gaining a degree will begin to make meaningful change in the outcome of their
Most people know that having a college degree could get you a higher paycheck. However, what people do not know is how much of a difference that degree could get you. Through a study of more than 6 million employees, it was found that people with a four-year degree make about $215,000 more than people without a degree. In addition, people with a graduate degree can make about $440,000 more over a period of twenty years, according to The Ladders (2013, September 7 p. 1). Three quarters of the highest paying industries, eighty percent professionals hold at least a four-year degree. (The Ladders 2013, September 3 p. 2).
People with a college degree tend to make more money than those who didn’t attend college. This is because most of the jobs that have a higher earning require a college degree. People that only get their school diploma don’t make as much money as someone with a college degree. A study done suggest that people who have a college degree are more likely to get hired because they have an education compared to those who don’t. According to the United States Bureau people who achieved the current degrees earned the following median salaries. People with a doctorate degree earn $100,000 or more. With a bachelor’s degree people earn $58,000 and people with an associates earn $42,000 or more(Lucier). A High School diploma is not worth as much as a college degree. A High school diploma means less today because of the shaping of the world. People who only have a high school diploma earn only about $33,000. These numbers also depend on the type of field that you are going into. For example, people that have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or management will earn a little bit more (Lynn). They will earn more because these fields are really important. In my opinion the United States has been transformed
The desire to further education is essential because it expands the mind of a person. College is implemented to attend a school for four plus years and hope to get a job after graduation. Without higher education there would not be any scientist or engineers in the world to continue to make society run smoother. However, it’s actually more than that, it creates long term friendship and builds independence.
Attending college is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life! After earning a high school diploma, I promised my mother I would earn a college degree. My mother would repeatedly say “earning a degree, working hard, and raising a family” were the pillars of life. Instead of following the “pillars of life” I decided to shake things up a little. She was astonished when I joined the United States Army. Now that I have retired from the United States Army after twenty years, it’s time to finally fulfill that promise. Obtaining a college degree will make a better life for me and my family. A better life sounds like a term that is used loosely in a crowded room full of broke people. A better life to one person can mean something totally different
For example, having a better career could make it possible to have a better retirement and old age security. Furthermore, continuing education after high school would develop a better understanding of people, provide a great opportunity to meet a wide variety of people, and build a network of friends and contacts. Moreover, Higher education is not only important for career development; it clearly plays a role in personal development as well. Post-secondary education would be an assist in bringing us close to our family, friends, and society, and would make our lives vivid.
What is the purpose of a college education? college education is as important as high school education. Everyone should attend college. Student who are graduating from high school should not be wondering if weather they should attend college or not. I do understand that everyone has a different goal and a different point of view, but still college education is extremely important for many different reasons. higher education is important for so many reasons and some of them are, better future, involved with community, and be more knowledgeable.
being able to make more money, having a better job security, more career opportunities and furthering
Higher education, to me, is meant for learning about what life truly entails. It is to teach the student, not to find every answer in life, but to create more questions that will eventually need to be answered. Ronald Barnett wrote The Idea of Higher Education, in which Barnett wrote about how higher education, “is not complete unless the student realizes that, no matter how much effort is put in, or how much library research, there are no final answers”. Ronald Barnett’s intended meaning in his selection is to explain that higher education is not supposed to be just like secondary education. Higher education is supposed to destroy the student’s “taken-for-granted world” in which they had been raised and taught to know. First world students have been raised in a place where education is offered to almost everyone, where most people live with roofs over their heads, and have food in their bellies every night. Higher education reveals life and its hardships, and how it affects us and the people we are surrounded by. It shows the truth about the world, and uncovers the information that
Getting a degree in a college is not as simple as I thought. Since the difficulty to get a right education for my degree, depends on whether I know my obstacles or not. If I know what my obstacles are, then I can overcome them faster. However, if I do not, then I cannot move further to my degree, until I figure out what are those. Thinking about my obstacles, three majors I am facing are physical challenges, financial issues, and a language barrier.
College education is necessary for success because it allow people to have more possibility. The idea of success is that the person got have a stable, place to live, foods to eat, and at the same time is able to pay their bills. At the moment, finding a good job can be competitive. Therefore, someone with a college education has a higher chance of getting hired than someone who does not have one. The benefits of attending college and getting a degree, are networking, having a higher chance of getting hired, and also receiving a better salary.
When I was very young I could not see the value of a good education, like Mike Rose while he was in the vocational classes. From the first time I went to college to now I have changed immensely and i now see the value of a good education, I think one of the reasons was because I saw how hardworking and generous my grandfather was. Working for HK Contractors, I made good money but, they work you almost to death. Growing older has shown me how hard work and dedication will pay off. This time school was what I wanted to do, not what I thought was expected of me.
In my humble opinion, higher education institutions, change the world for the better, helping people to be encouraged, and more optimistic about life in general. As a person from an uneducated family, an education beyond high school has always been just a dream until now. As a whole, in the United States, higher education is seen as a necessity for most people to be successful, to be gained through university as apposed to self-taught. According to the president of Harvard, Drew Gilpin Faust, "Higher education generates broader economic growth as well as individual success." (Faust, 2010). Providing students with the knowledge to have a successful career, is not the only accomplishment of higher education, it also enables students to see the world with more clarity and understanding. Therefore, creating a more dynamic and open
Some societies are built in the midst of underdeveloped communities that undermine the worth of a college degree; some can not afford the house they live in, let alone afford a higher degree. That is why post- secondary education is a gateway out of social economic situations of poverty, and to obtain knowledge to change the social economic mindset that education is not their way out of poverty. If these communities that are held to poverty all had college degrees, then it would change that economic status, making that community thrive with wealth. Most poverty-stricken families have to work together to pay rent or groceries, and the means to get money is to get jobs at young ages to help provide money for their families. If communities in destitute situations earned a higher degree, they would be able to sustain a life without the need of worry of financial troubles that they are faced or will face without a higher degree.
A college education makes an individual stronger and more self-assured. A college education will present me countless rewards and I will learn so much more in a one on one setting than just completing online classes. I have encountered all kinds of people in a Community College setting, learning to connect with different types of individuals in different surroundings, and this gives a big increase in self-confidence. Choosing my career more intelligently, getting the experience to become more self-assured and making better and well-judged decisions will be the results of getting the degree. Getting a college degree is perhaps the major milestone of my life. This degree is a treasured thing and will help and prepare me for the entrance into the real
