Have you ever wondered why we are the way we are or why we think differently from the people around us? Well, many of these characteristics come from our DNA that we inherited from our parents its part of our genetic make-up. Although, there are many things that we inherit from our environment as we grow. Have you ever thought about why the majority of psycho killers have no remorse towards their actions or why they commit these unexplainable tragedies? Psycho killers have an Antisocial Personality Disorder which causes them to become psychotic, but the big question is does this disorder come from nature or nurture? Because there is a big difference between a psychopathic killer (also known as a serial killer) and a murderer. According to Psychology Today 2013, a serial killer is defined as someone who commits more than three murders over a period that spans more than one month. For the most part, serial killers commit murder for some sort of psychological benefit. Most serial killers can be said to be intelligent, if not extremely intelligent. This is one of the common traits among serial killers, and what separates them from the common day to day murderer. Another big distinction between a murderer and a psychopathic killer is that a murderer acts upon revenge or a robbery and a serial killer does it for the psychological gratification of the act. Also, serial killers suffer from antisocial personality disorder and murderers for the most part don’t. The Mayo Clinic 2016 reports, Antisocial personality disorder, sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or with callous indifference. They show no guilt or remorse for their behavior. The debate has always been if it’s because of nature (our inherited genes) or nurture (experiences we live through). If a psycho killer commits a murder did he do it because of his genetic makeup or because he simply went through a horrible childhood that cause him to. This is a question that psychologist have tried to answer for years. Psychologist have studied serial killers for years because it is still a big mystery of why they behave the way they do. Many people believe its due to nature others believe nurture is at fault and some believe it's a combination of both. There has been many different types of studies and medical research done on people who commit murders vs people who are considered normal. For example Davidson 2000, performed brain scans on over 500 hundred people of those 500 hundred people their were some who were susceptible to violence and some who were considered normal who did not commit violence. Ramsland 2005 research found, “The brain images of those who had been convicted of a murder with aggressive or antisocial disorders showed distinct brain activity compared to those who were considered normal. If this study is correct then these murderers must have been born with an entirely different genetic makeup then that of those in the majority of the population who are not violent.” This study done by Dr. Davidson suggests that these psycho killers
