“Cause baby now we got bad blood you know it used to be mad love so take a look at what you've done.” Lyrics or even writings commonly tell a true story like these by Taylor Swift are telling a story about Taylor’s love life failing. The same thing Taylor does could be found in Edgar Allen Poe’s work. Edgar’s work is autobiographical because it shows his love life with different women, it also portrays his psychological loss throughout time, and it shows his recurrence of sorrow from the many deaths and people straying away around him. Edgar Allen Poe’s had many great love’s. He lost so much and went through so many changes. In his poem “The Raven” is shows how he is somewhat depressed and no one is born like that. “Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor” (Poe 7-8) ,Poe is shown depressed by the way he describes December. That december of Poe's life was bleak just like he wrote in real life nothing really happened for him. Poe was known for being athletic and was known throughout his town as the boy who swam against the James River for six or seven miles (knowing). That portrays his as a happy outgoing kid just like how he wrote in the “Berenice” not a depressed basket case like he was in “The Tale-Tell Heart”. In Poe’s work “The Tell-Tale Heart” Poe is having an internal conflict, which is strongly shown when Poe is debating to kill a man in the beginning with no consideration ;which is most likely his adopted dad John Allen which whom he hates. “It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none” (Poe 1). It is truly shown he is losing his mind in that passage by the way he is sticking with the thought of murder without consideration that is nothing like the style of his beginning work that related to him strongly. The main cause of the constant leave was death. His mother,brother, and wife all died from Tuberculosis(knowing) which hurt him tremendously. These tragic deaths are shown strongly in Poe’s story “The Masque of the Red Death.” That piece of literature by him shows his own personal feel of anger or sorrow to this “red death”. In this case Poe is relating red death to Tuberculosis. This disease personally took his friends and family away, but at the same time hurt this country. “THE ‘Red Death’ had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous” (Poe 1). In this story Poe shines a light of himself throughout it to show you his presence. Poe also wrote a poem called “To My Mother”. This poem talks about the loss of a mother at a young age,which happened to Poe, and the loss of a person named Virginia. That is the exact same as Poe’s life. The line from that poem that says “In setting my Virginia's spirit free.My mother-my own mother, who died early,Was but the mother of myself; but you Are mother to the one I loved so dearly” (Poe 7-10), is to uncanning to not be him.
