Psy 270 Week 1 Personal Reflection

Throughout my semester in Washington D.C., I have had to bring in more of my psychology education from my major to my internship. With being at the American Psychological Association this semester, I gained a better knowledge on what goes into the research they do & how to apply different concepts & aspects of the field to the topics that they study. For the entirety of my internship, my research skills have improved from what they were prior to starting the program. Another skill that I wanted to work on during my internship was my communication skills, whether they be via phone call, talking person to person, or via email. I do believe that by communicating with a variety of people within the APA office or contacting people via call or email that I have sharpened my skills in effectively getting my message across to those I am communicating with. In a professional context, I have found that I do value a supervisor who I can go to if I have questions regarding work that I am doing or to clarify certain aspects of what is needed from the work I am given. Another component that I valued through my internship is that when giving me a task that may have seemed to be more complex than normal, there would be a consideration as to whether I thought that I could accomplish what was …show more content…

My long term goal within my degree of forensic psychology is to be able to create or find alternative ways for those who suffer from psychological disabilities that are frequently put into jails & prisons by the criminal justice system to have a different means of finding help & deterrence to stay out of trouble. I feel that in order to do that I have to initially become a leader for myself & set myself to a standard that I feel is needed to succeed in my long term goal & hopefully influence others in helping with the goal or achieving a goal of their own within the
