Although many people argue against vaccinations, they are essential due to the chemicals in vaccines are proven safe, vaccines protect the community as a whole, and they also prevent disease early on. The more people who are vaccinated in a community, the safer the area is against serious disease. According to pediatrician Lance Rodewald, “In order for a community to be fully protected against disease, 80 to 90 percent of its population needs to have been vaccinated.” (Heyworth, 2011). Diseases, such as polio, can spread throughout a community easily if one person who is not vaccinated contracts the disease. Opposing viewpoints argue that vaccines are unnatural and artificial. They claim that the human body can protect the human body and there are natural remedies that can cure illnesses.
