Teen Parenting
Many people have their own opinions on teen parenting due to the cause of teens getting pregnant so fast these days. Although there are many cons being a teen parent there are also pros. Teen parents will need to take on tough decisions, sacrifices, and responsibilities a teen shouldn’t be taking. Teen parents will usually have a harder time financially, educationally, emotionally, and physically. Teen parents have to deal with practically everyone criticizing and doubting them; they also have to face all of the negativity towards them.
Teen moms often get judged by the people surrounding her; her parents, siblings, peers, and others. Most people will look at her as the kind of person who slept around often or planned to get pregnant. They don’t notice that it only takes one time in order to get pregnant (Teen Parenting 1). The last thing a teen would need is hearing her peers or peoples around her judge her for having a child as a teen, when it’s already hard enough to have a normal teenage life and go to school. Teen moms usually lose most of her friends during pregnancy (Taylor 1).
“New moms need encouragement and support from everyone in their lives. If you don’t have anything nice to say to new moms when they return to school, don’t say anything at all,” heap advised (Taylor 1). Having to deal with the entire tough situation is definitely worth it when it comes to your own child; they bring the most joy into one’s life. “Life is what you make it and having a kid at a young age can bring more good than bad. Ultimately it’s up to the young lady to decide whether she wants to have a child or not” (Pulido 1). Before you consider settling down, it’s best to make sure you have had enough fun and accomplished all of your goals; even if you didn’t, it’s best to continue school to make you and your child’s life better in the future (Pulido 1).
If you take all of these steps you will survive at least one normal day in the life of a single parent going back to school. Continuing your education is hard work. It takes dedication, commitment, and making sacrifices. Remember, your family comes first, your education second, and if you have time for anything else, it comes third. Don’t give up and keep your sense of humor.
Being a parent is very demanding and can be hard. The difficulties that come with an unplanned pregnancy in teens can have a profound effect on their life. Their physical, social, mental, and emotional health will all be affected by a sudden change in the course of their life. Teens impacted with an unplanned pregnancy will have to give up many things in order to be a parent. In addition, they will have to take on many more responsibilities that accompany pregnancy and parenthood. All in all, having an unplanned pregnancy and becoming a parent introduce many new responsibilities and difficulties.
What does it mean to be a “teen mom”? People can put others into groups and to some degree label them without even consciously thinking about it. There are even television shows about this topic including, “Sixteen and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom”, at times these shows show the affect the situation has on the father as well. Some individuals say this idolizes this situation, others say it shows a realistic picture of what life would be like to be a mom at 16. This is something that people may categorize or label as soon as they see or assume someone is a “teen mom”. This label may end up having a negative effect on the parent(s). To many people this can be a sign of irresponsibility or poor judgment, but obviously everyone in this situation is not the same. Some are irresponsible and do not change; but some do take on the responsibility and change themselves to become a better person and a more responsible parent.
After a teen gets pregnant they start thinking of a way to hide it from their parents,The big problems start then. Many reasons teens think of are suicide, abortion and many other reasons. Abortions are becoming more frequent due to the ignorance and intolerance of certain societies around the world. This leads to the death of many teenage mothers as well as their children. There a lot of things that can cause an unplanned teen pregnancy, such as teens experimenting with sexual encounters at a young age. Another reason is the lack of guidance due to parents that do not take care of their children. Teenage girls often get pregnant and do not know the first step in becoming a mother. Normally, when a teenage girl gets pregnant, she is less likely to attend college according to “Women Issues” by Linda Lowen. Some mothers are not even sure who their baby’s father is and many babies get aborted. Motherhood has taught me many life lessons. Before becoming a mother, I was a self centered child. I had no motivation to succeed. All I was worried about was where the next party was. At that time I had no want to try because I was so scared to fail. I was slowly progressing to go nowhere and do nothing with my life. That has all changed now. I no longer party or use drugs. I work full time, attend college full time and devote my all to my children. Without them I would probably be in a jail cell not where I am today.
Becoming a teen mom was more than a challenge in so many different ways, but surprisingly for me meeting my husband and having my children saved my life. Before I got pregnant I lived in a lower class environment with my mother, step farther and two little sisters. I grew up without knowing my biological father. Whether planned or unplanned, change can cause disruption to one’s stable environment if not handled in the correct way (McGarry, Cashin, & Fowler, 2012). Having children was a positive planned change for me. The decision has greatly improved my well-being and outlook on life. My thought process was changed the instant I held my first child. From that point on, every decision I make is centered on how it will affect them. Motherhood has opened my eyes to the realization that change occurs every day and there is no halting the process. As I watch my children grow, I emotionally embrace each unforeseen moment that comes with it.
Becoming a mom at sixteen was the hardest thing I have ever done. Trying to work, go to school and take care of my daughter seemed impossible. My mom was always there to support me, but from the moment I found out I was pregnant I was determined to do it on my own. When you become a mom at sixteen the paths you can take in life change, and you are no longer a teenage you become an adult really fast.

Lack of parental care can cause physical problems for both the child and the mother. The mothers social life can also be affected by making them leave their friends behind as she cares for her newborn. Teen mothers are also more likely to drop out of high school due to complications in caring for their child. Stable jobs are typically harder to find with a lack of higher education and cause financial instability for the mother. From its peak in 1990, teen pregnancy rates have declined by 42% by 2008 (Healthyteennetwork.org) yet this is still higher than any first world country. Teen pregnancy is an ongoing battle and should be considered won when it is eradicated.
Teenagers are still kids. So basically we have a bunch of kids having kids which is insane. Teenagers aren’t ready to be parents until they have grown up themselves. Teens aren’t able to raise a steady family, they don’t have jobs, their children won’t have fathers, and they aren’t responsible enough for that yet. To be a parent you need discipline, education, and finances. Teens have none of that. The teenagers shouldn’t have to have all of that forced onto them at such an early age. Becoming a mother has been the best part of my life. I became a mother at a very young age. I had no idea what to expect and was not in the least prepared for the journey that lie ahead. I have truly embraced motherhood and enjoy all the wonderful things it has taught me. While living through motherhood, I have found that it can teach you the most valuable lessons there are to learn. Being a mother has taught me how to have patience. I have also learned that being a mother takes a lot on mental and physical strength. My children have been the best to teach me how to juggle many tasks at once. They have made me strong. Even through some unexpected turns, I have learned how to get through hard times and really learn what it means to never give up. My children are my biggest blessing, and I hope they will learn valuable lessons through me. The skills I have learned from being a mother have helped me in my college journey.
