With every problem there’s a solution, not a perfect one, but one with more pros less cons. Online Gambling started in 1994 on the small Caribbean island of Antigua when their government passed the Free Trade and Processing Act. This allowed for licenses to be granted to organizations who wanted to start their own online gambling company. That same year, Microgaming, the first online gambling software provider, was founded. With this came the first online poker room, Planet Poker, followed by the world famous PokerStars in 2001. Further down the line in 2005 the World Trade Organization disputed the regulation regarding cross boarder online gambling, eventually ruling in favor of Antigua rather than the USA. To this day there has yet to be a poker room or casino charged with any crime related to gambling by United States residents. Whether the legalization of online gambling is positive or negative brings forth a great argument. As stated earlier, theres no perfect solution to a major problem such as this one. So let’s start with the pros. The believers in online gambling state that “Online Gambling is Regulated and Safe”, Online Gambling promotes personal freedom, it makes cheating that much harder, and lastly, it’s very easy to access and just that much more convenient. For the cons, the list just keeps growing. The few that will be covered are; “Online Gambling Creates Underage Gambling Addicts”, how bad gambling actually is for you, the addictive factor, the affects it has on families, and finally, the crime surrounding it. Most will be against its restrictions for many shallow reasons such as “it’s fun”. Gambling in itself brings forth that thrill sensation. Risking, a small of amount of money for a big payout gives everyone the belief that it could be them to win the jackpot; they could be the one to get that royal flush. It’s not surprising the that the number one reason people gamble is to win money, what is more surprising is the number two reason, the social aspect. Amongst senior gamblers the number two reason they gamble is their opportunity to get out with their friends. For younger gamblers, it’s the excitement of winning. It’s the excitement of the gambling experience. Another reason people want to see the legalization of online gambling upheld is the pure convenience of having it right there at your fingertips. Whether it be the laptop or a mobile device there is access to endless game rooms around the world. There is no need to get out of bed or off the couch, that gambling excitement is there for you whenever you please. Even to buy into a game is as simple as it gets.
