Over the years, I continued to give as much of my time, money, and possessions as I could, all the while studying the bible and writing my thoughts on giving and what that meant as a Christian to be a giver. I also wrote about all the good experiences I had while giving my time. when I was 19 I started a group at my community college that made sack lunches and passed them out to homeless people on the weekends. The first year, we did it just once a month, then we went to every weekend. Eventually, we were all so dedicated , we did it year round, even when there were no classes in session. I gave blood, I gave trees to a park, gave all of my time… Though much of it has been rewarding, there were also many times I was grossly taken advantage of. I spread myself too thin helping others to the point that I neglected to take care of myself. I trusted others that I thought were also givers, but were really takers… and lost my life savings of $45,000. I just didn’t see takers coming… I often thought to myself, I must have the word “Sucker” stamped on my forehead. When I was 40 years old, I realized that that thought was all too true.
