Make America great again, President Donald Trump preached to the American citizens as he ran for president in 2016. All people have seen propaganda in some form trying to turn and manipulate minds to vote for jobs like a president, sheriff, or even just a high school student for homecoming queen. In politics propaganda is used more than ever trying to push thoughts on to citizens about a certain party or candidate. Politicians will even link their phrases, and advertisements to common interest of different groups to get a widespread variety hoping that it will bring more people to follow and believe in the work they plan to do. In 1984 Walter Mondale a former vice president used the propaganda strategy testimonial/endorsements to draw certain groups like retirees, united paperworkers and Asian American to vote for him. (document A) The endorsement is used to show the support for someone whether it is a famous endorsement, or a group of people. When the voters see that a candidate is liked by a certain group that they are associated with, or know is high up in status it gives off a positive vibe to others who are not sure about the candidate that is running. Mondale used endorsement when he said “retirees support Mondale-Ferraro” retirees are elderly people who have lived through a lot and have a good understanding of what is needed in a good leader or vice president, and having them behind the candidate gives off to the younger folks that the candidate has a good head on their shoulders. Eisenhower had an ad called “Eisenhower Answers America” in the ad a woman talks about how everything nowadays is high priced and that it driving her “crazy.” General Eisenhower comes back at the women saying “ my mamie gets after me about the high cost of living. It’s another reason why I say it’s time for a change”(document C) he uses this ad to make him come off as just a plain folk and that he has everyone’s best interest at heart. Using the plain folk method it makes the littlest person have something in common with the candidate which makes them have more of a truth to them and help get citizens on their side. On the other side using the plain folk strategy could tear the other candidate down like Adlai stevenson did with his “I Love the Guv” ad. The song reads “I’d rather have a man with a hole in his shoe than a hole in everything he says. I’d rather have a man who knows what to do when he get’s to be prez.” (document C) Adlai is saying that he is an average man who has worn out a pair of shoes and has a hole in his own shoe and that it is better for him an average hard working man to be president than Eisenhower who he is running against a man whose word is nothing but talk without a meaning.
