Program Evaluation Research
The purpose of this paper is to define and discuss evaluation research and what it is, and how it is conducted. Discuss the importance of evaluation research and any impact the research may have on program implementation. Discuss the types of evaluations discussed in the reading Powell (2006) and the phases it entails. Discuss the stakeholders in the evaluation and their respective interests according to Metcalfe, Aitken, & Gaff (2008), and what role should the stakeholders play in an evaluation.

Different administrators use it for a variety of reasons. Some researchers may use evaluation research after new products are released. The data collected can tell the manufacturer how durable a product may be. Data collected and analyzed may be of use for improvements or upgrades to products. Lots of businesses may use evaluation research to validate a practice or services rendered to the consumer. Evaluation research works to improve organization and gain a true insight to what is really going on within an organization or when dealing with programs. Evaluation research is conducted in a variety of areas such as community, health research, scholarly programs, and consumer product, to name a few. These types of research also explain why a program works and how it may work (Metcalfe, Aitken, & Gaff …show more content…
Evaluation research methods are conducted as needed, when problems arise, or at any time it is deemed necessary. Methods may be completed using input measurement, output, and impact assessment outcomes. Macro evaluations are conducted with rule sets meaning that there are rules that are differentiated by sets. Micro evaluations are conducted using single rules against a common set of measures (Zou, 2008). Other types of evaluation research include subjective, objective, formative and summative evaluation research. Subjective research is based on one point of view, for example, a teacher formulates her ratings of what a passing grade in a discussion question would be in her class, and in contrast an objective evaluation would not include what the teacher's ratings are, it would not involve her feedback. Formative evaluations happen in the beginning phase of a program. The evaluations are conducted most commonly in these two ways, focus group discussion and in-depth interviews. Both focus group discussion and in-depth interviews are useful in gaining insight into a person or community on their particular views of the world around them and what motivates them. These groups can also lay the groundwork to uncover important information that can be used for future program
Evaluation can be crucial part of employee development, it let employee know where they are currently and where they can improve and it outlines what is expected. This can give a sense of purpose. Some of the cons are they that if they are not done appropriately or too generalized it can make the employee feel lost an unfulfilled. You can make it so the goals are basically unachievable giving a sense of powerlessness. I don’t believe this statement is completely true, I believe
If conducted well, the participant-oriented approach can offer the buy-in needed to remove the stigma of the evaluation process. Using this approach can provide stakeholders “with self knowledge and skills and an understanding of the power arrangements concerning their program and their locality” (Fitzpatrick et al., 2011, p.201). As stated by Cousins and Earl (1992) using key personnel capable of making decisions and who have a strong connection to the program can augment the usefulness and promote the actual use of the evaluation. It can also promote trust in the process and serve to remove any political stigma that may arise.

There are two types of research that can be conducted in research studies, these are qualitative and quantitative (Newman, 2011). Qualitative research is a process that uses detailed oriented methodology that tries to achieve a profound knowledge or understanding of specific incident and circumstance, wh...
The problem that Andy has though is that he is not able to fully demonstrate how effective the programs are. For Andy to be able to fully demonstrate the effectiveness of the programs he needs to utilize some evaluation methods so he has data to present to the director of Greenby Community Center and the board of directors. Andy needs to be performing a process evaluation to measure how the program is performing, allowing him to provide the information needed to keep the program in place. At the beginning objectives should have been set for the consultation and education program, through a process evaluation it can be determined if those objectives are being met or what improvements need to be made (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). One of the methods that could be used is to receive feedback, not only from the workers in the program but also the participants which would help to see what needs to be improved along with if the objectives are being met. This could be done by a survey that would allow the workers and the participants the option to give their opinions of how they felt the program was and where they felt improvements might be needed. Another method is constant evaluation to make sure that the goal and objectives of the program are being met, this would give data that could be presented to show how the program is performing. With some small changes being made the consultation and education program could be a success it would just require making sure that the overall performance of the program is up to the standards that were set at the
Program evaluation is a skill that requires for skilled people to conduct an evaluation that is credible. My reason for taking this class was to gain the basic understanding of the program evaluation. As I became involved in the readings and class assignments I discovered a profound level of respect for this application. I uncovered that evaluations should dedicate thoughtfulness to all stakeholders who are invested in the program and affected by its evaluation. This process allows a full range of people and groups to take part in the evaluation; this is also a way to identify and develop the needs of stakeholders. Evaluation should be integrated throughout the preliminary phases of program development. A preliminary phase of the evaluation process is to define the program in-depth detail. This collective endeavor can generate a mutual understanding of the program and the evaluation process. In the environment in which I work this is an unknown process, program evaluation happens at the end of the year. In most cases, most programs are unsuccessful because of the fact of having unrealistic goals and outcomes. Evaluations can be formative and summative. Formative evaluations are conducted in the development and implementation phase of the program. This process can be beneficial because it provides with information on how to best attain the goals or make changes to the program. Summative evaluations happen when the programs are well instituted and inform on to what degree the program is attaining its outcomes and goals (Patton, 1987).
I am a cocoon still on the verge of transformation. In order for me to transform myself into something beautiful, there are many processes and steps that need to play a part. NJ LEEP’s College Bound Program can help me improve the person I am regarding work ethic, creativity, articulation, etc. Due to this program, I will obtain a greater understanding on how to manage my time wisely, think in a different way from other people, and speak in an elegant way. In addition, it can help me gain more knowledge and have a greater understanding in life. I am able to acquire life experiences, as well. I realized that through my five years in Harrison, I had not been introduced to the actual world. I am in an enclosed, giant bubble called Harrison. Due to this, I never had the opportunity to experience how the real world is and meet new people unless I make changes into my life. Harrison might not be able to offer me many chances. However, NJ LEEP will. Nonetheless, this program will allow me to overcome multiple fears that I could never been able to overcome before, such as public speaking. NJ LEEP is only my first step to achieve greatness and success.
Hospitalization among adolescent females in an inpatient psychiatric unit is fairly common. However, little research has been done on the topic. This qualitative research proposal will examine the reasoning behind the effects hospitalization has on these adolescent females, between the ages of 12-18, after they spent some time at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital. Self-reporting, via interviews and questionnaires, from hospitalized adolescent girls will be the manner in which the data will be collected. Since the length of hospital stays may vary, questionnaires and interviews will be conducted upon discharge in order to keep procedure unanimous.. A general inductive approach will be used to assess data collected from patients.
An evaluation plan helps the participants to improve the performance and their efficiency. An effective evaluation plan would result in improved personal growth. It would also help in the development of the interactions due to the growth in social and intellectual skills. Academic institutions need to develop a quality evaluation plan that would help acquire and maintain satisfactory academic performance. Texas Southern University Campus used the Urban Academic Village evaluation plan to improve their standards.

Per Houser (2015) a program evaluation serves to “test theories, and develop practices and procedures” of intervention programs and it is intended for both the professional and scientific communities (p. 285). There are three types of program evaluations and they are based on program need, program implementation, and outcome of the program (Houser, 2015, p. 286). This paper will review the need, implementation and potential outcome of implementing a group counseling program for youth and their non-offending caregivers that have faced a trauma; after the completion of family sessions.
...d it would do and if it is reaching the goals that were set. There are two types of evaluations process and impact. Process evaluations are “those evaluations that look to see if an agency is meeting the mandate set forth by Congress”. Impact evaluations “consist of studies conducted on the effect that congressional policies have actually had on a specific problem”.
After establishing the research problem and what results are wanted, it will define how it will find the answers. Research is a form of collection and interpretation of information that will form the basis of finding answers to questions. The research uses theories and methods that h...
The Importance and Appropriateness of Utilizing Different Methodologies for Research. Introduction The process of research entails the logical as well as systematic search for useful data and information with regard to a specific topic (Jha, 2008). It is also comprised of the investigation of the best, most cost effective and appropriate solutions to both social and scientific issues, following an objective and logical analysis. Jha, (2008) defines research as the search for knowledge and the discovery of the truth. During this process, the data can be gathered from a wide pool of sources among them interviews, books, nature among others. The data can then be analyzed with the appropriate data analysis tools, so as to report the findings
