Professionalism is a term used in a wide variety of settings. Every job requires their employees to act professionally but the understanding of what the term “professionalism” means can be interpreted in many ways. As a student in a doctor of physical therapy program, it is important to possess the most important aspects of professionalism. One of the most important features of professionalism is communication. As a student, it is important to be able to communicate with professors and other students in a professional manner, whether that be about a topic in class, projects, or getting extra help. This applies to both physical therapy students and physical therapist alike. A physical therapy student needs to be accountable to their peers and professors. It is important to show up to class every day and work hard to learn the material they are being taught. The student also needs to be accountable to their peers when working in groups or showing up to a study session. As a student, it is our job to learn and master all of the material we are given. This is especially important in health care fields because missing a class may cause the student to miss an important topic which may affect their ability to care for patients in the future. It is also important to be accountable to an internship site. The student needs to show up on time, as the physical therapy setting is putting extra time and effort into teaching the student. As a physical therapist, accountability is very important. The patients need the therapist to show up every day in order for them to get treated and be feeling better. A physical therapist also needs to be accountable for continuing their education by taking courses and staying up to date on treatments. There are many aspects that play a role in professionalism, and different careers may have a different take on what professionalism means. In addition to medical knowledge and skills, medical professionals should present psychosocial and humanistic qualities such as caring, empathy, humility and compassion, as well as social responsibility and sensitivity to people's culture and beliefs. Everything I do at work, and even outside of work has a direct effect on fellow coworkers, patients, and the profession of physical therapy. Not living up to these standards can alienate the patient, and even show the therapists, and support staffs lack of professionalism and commitment to their patient. An education is a foundation for many people lives. Having an education will develop social interactions, help students become more creative, it aids us to contribute to the economy and prepare us for of career. A physical therapist must be able to handle the school work that is given to them. When applying to a DPT program your minimum prerequisite GPA must be 3.0, which I exceed. You must also take the GRE and have at least average score of one-hundred fifty. This will also look very good when applying to a DPT program. Then you must have observation hours. Some school may accept fifty hours, and other may take one-hundred and more. So far I have been able to complete over sixty hours of observation. I have been able to Prepare the treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols. I also help treat patients by applying heat packs, assisting patients into a whirlpool, monitoring their motion, measuring mobility, performing prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques as an example. All of these assets I learned from my observation gives me an advantage on to become a successful physical therapist. In addition, to become a successful physical therapist you must have the proper resume as well. In every career, you have to provide your profession with a resume which must contain every feature about yourself to show why your a better fit than the rest. Your resume
When I think of professionalism, I believe the criteria is substantially the same in any context. Being professional requires core values that without, the full professionalism will not be obtained. For professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program I believe there are 4 core values that should be met to produce the highest quality student. I believe those core values include: communication, accountability, ethics, and maturity. With being a successful student in a doctor of physical therapist program, having good communication skills is vital.
The questionnaire, Professionalism in Physical Therapy: Core Values, evaluates several values such as accountability, altruism, compassion/caring, excellence, integrity, professional duty, and social responsibility. Before taking this questionnaire, I thought of myself as being rated very highly in many of these categories. After careful evaluation, individually and with a partner, I lowered some of the core values rating of myself, while confirming the high rating of myself in other areas.

The vision statement for the physical therapy career is: “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience”. 1 Through my prior volunteer and work experiences, I discovered that physical therapy was the perfect career choice and vision for my future. As a current student and future physical therapist, I will play an important role for society and within the health care profession.
