Why is it fair for a woman to terminate their unborn child in any circumstance? In my opinion, I think it is fair for a woman to end her pregnancy in any situation, however; others may think not. Women should not be forced to do anything they do not agree with on doing. It is women’s rights to make their own decision. Women should terminate their pregnancy if it is a rape case, if it is their own decision, or if it is ended by her third trimester.

In Judith Jarvis Thompson’s article “A Defense of Abortion” she explores the different arguments against abortion presented by Pro –Life activists, and then attempts to refute these notions using different analogies or made up “for instances” to help argue her point that women do have the right to get an abortion. She explains why abortion is morally permissible using different circumstances of becoming pregnant, such as rape or unplanned pregnancy.
However, we have reverted back to the case of rape. If a fetus conceived voluntarily has the right not to be aborted due to how it was conceived, then the fetus conceived from rape should also have that same right. Instead of creating a distinction of cases where the fetus has a right to use the body of a pregnant person, Thomson instead makes a distinction of when abortion would be morally wrong.
Rape is a despicable crime against women. Opinions are heated, and it seems that everybody has something to say about pregnancy in the case of rape. In these instances, women have no choice in the matter. If the act of sex was not consensual, making her carry a child for nine months is just cruel. Just image yourself in this type of predicament. Imagine the emotional pain of being raped, imagine waking up every day for the next nine months with a child inside your womb that was forcedly put there against your will. By forcing that woman to carry full term and deliver, you are forcing that woman through a great deal of emotional pain as well as physical pain. You are punishing her for having the ability to carry a child and potentially scarring her for the rest of her life. The woman now has to take care of this baby on her own, a baby that is a constant reminder of the horrible crime of which she was a victim. Imagine going to jail right after getting an abortion. Imagine the government being able to tell women what they can and cannot do with their own body. Did you know it is illegal to get an abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy in 41 states? 1.21 million abortions happen each year. Of course, some may say that abortion is a sin, crime, or even murder, but does that mean the government should set restrictions on what women can do with their own body? Abortion is a punishment to an innocent unborn child who contributed nothing in the act of the crime; the perpetrator should be the one to be punished. On this topic, it does have something to do with my religious views. Either way, people should understand and realize that this is completely and visibly just plain murder. How would you feel if your own mother decided to have an abortion on you? I think people do have the right to choose what to do with their own body, but they should not only just think about their selves in the matter.
There is also the argument that women who are raped or victims of incest should be forced to carry a child to full term and then give the child up for adoption. Statistics say that 1 in 3 women will be victims of rape or a sexually violent act but does this mean that 33% of women also should be forced to carry their violators child to term? It doesn’t seem fair that a woman loses her feelings of safety and loses her choice to say no and then also has to go through an unwanted pregnancy on top of it.(amplify, 2009)

It is saddening to see humans of the female gender, who find themselves in a situation that requires introducing a new life into the world; to abort such a precious gift. Many may wonder how these poor, innocent, unborn children are then discarded after the abortion procedure. One cannot fathom the reason of these gruesome murders that happens within these medical facilities. Babies are disposed in the red waste bins of these facilities, and later incinerated. Some may either be flushed down garbage disposals or even be sold off for research purposes. The issue of abortion is not just a social one, but also a human rights issue among the unborn children. I believe if the human rights of these children has been violated, then all other rights of humans are certainly meaningless.

To be raped is to be sexually assaulted forcefully and unwillingly. According to the Uniform Crime reports, of all serious offenses, rape is probably “the most under reported crime.” Victims of rape are not only violated physically, they are violated mentally as well. It is a very traumatic experience that woman have to deal with for the remainder of their life. They usually incur symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome, stress disorders, fear, constant memories of the attack, a loss of confidence, and shame. (Mary E. Williams) These effects alter the victim’s life severely and can interfere with their day to day life and relationships. Being raped is a horrific crime that no woman should ever have to endure. In many cases victims of rape may become impregnated by the perpetrator leaving the victim to another form of violation.
