Reflecting on one’s own feeling, beliefs, fears, and weaknesses is a good way to evaluate the needs for improvement and limitations in a nursing practice. This paper will review my top three priorities for my nursing practice, barriers that challenge my priorities, my experiences in the clinical world and the different role models in the nursing profession. I will also be discussing my commitment to improving patient care and safety.

One of those will be having too little time and too much to do. I will have the pressure of time constraints and having to make decisions in a split second. I will have to make sure to remind myself during those times to take a deep breath and slow down especially with medication administration. I will also need to keep studying and take continual education classes once I have become a nurse. However being a working mother and going to school is extremely hard. Also another barrier in being knowledgeable is to becoming complacent. In in real life things don’t go as planned, patients can be unpredictable, rude, and moody. I have shadowed nurses who are very good in following protocol and patient safety. However I have also shadowed nurses who cut corners, such as with waste witnessing. I have actually seen a nurse in who signed that they witness medication wasting but walked out the door before the wasting was completed. Again due to time constraints, I have learned that I don’t want to be that kind of nurse.
