A great way to make social studies more fascinating to students is through the use of primary sources. Primary sources are objects that have some type of reference to history that may include journals, documents, artifacts, jewelry, pictures, clothing, along with much more. These objects are one of the best ways to enhance social studies instruction in the classroom. Primary sources are a great tool to get students intrigued with the curriculum topic that is being covered in class along with being able to create meaning to the topic being discussed. More and more schools are cutting back on their social studies program and forced to incorporate social studies into other subjects to make sure students are getting some social studies in. However, there are resources in the community to help with including primary sources in the classroom like the Joslyn Art Museum. This museum let’s individuals rent out trunks that are designed to different cultures like Ancient Greek, Native Americans, or Ancient Egypt. Some of the trunks contained pieces like vases from the Ancient Egypt times which allows students to develop a deeper level of thinking when they see sources like this. Another great way to have access to primary sources is through online resources. According to Lamb and Johnson, primary sources are a great digital tool to incorporate in lessons like online articles, books, info graphics, legal documents, letters, and photographs (2013). Primary sources make learning more fun for students and lets students see a way into the culture from back then. A picture of a primary source can be useful, but there is nothing like having an actual prop to represent the material you are covering for that
