One thing that many Americans do not realize is how much religion plays a role in American lives, and how it has played a role in our presidents lives from the very beginning of our country to now BP4: Barack Obama is seen as many things that he is not, much like how Washington is seen as a , Obama is seen by the media as a person that he is not, and people state crazy “facts” about him. One of these “facts” is that he is a muslim, this is not true, though many believe that it is. According to the NBC News article “Obama Sets the Record Straight on his Religion” the Obama family is active members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago IL. When Obama was confronted about a chain email going around about him Obama reacted by saying: I was sworn in with my hand on the family Bible. Whenever I'm in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. So if you get some silly e-mail ... send it back to whoever sent it and tell them this is all crazy. Educate (NBC News). Although many do believe those chain emails that they get, no matter how crazy they sound, usually they aren't true. If you wouldn’t believe a chain letter saying that you will have bad luck for the next 7 years if you don’t forward it, then why would you believe one about the president? The fact of the matter is that no matter how you get your information, you need to double check it. Just like Obama said, “...Educate” The email that Obama was addressing did have some truth to it though, but these small facts were taken completely out of context. Obamas Middle name is Hussein, and his father and step father were muslim, but he spent his childhood in catholic schools and not that he is older, is a christian. Thes... ... middle of paper ... ...le in its use of this quote. Most cut out the word “Just” to make it seem as if Obama was attacking their religion. If they were to put an ellipses in the quote to signal that is was only part of the quote, more people may do more research on it, but this is not what many people want. In todays media most people want everyone to think like they do, and to try and sway people to their ways of thinking they cut out very important words. Ideas of conclusion In today’s society many things are different from how it was many years ago. Religion in school is prohibited, laws are changing, and it all leads back to our presidents the way they were raised, and ultimately, how their faith played or plays a role in their lives. America as a whole has changed dramatically since washington's time, and imagine how much it will change in the future, the possibilities are endless.
