The community is a very strong one with many of the students going on to do great things, which has given me the inspiration to believe that I can do whatever I want in life, as I see others who are well on their way. Within this community, I have been able to form strong bonds with other students who have similar interests and ambitions. We are able to push each other to learn new things and, through a mix of competition and collaboration, are able to truly progress in many ways, pursuing excellence in both our scholastic and extracurricular endeavors. I believe this has made me a better person, inspiring me to take on a more demanding schedule and to help others when they struggle, because they help me as well. I have been able to help several friends and neighbors do better in math classes and on the ACT. Unexpectedly, I was also able to help one of my assistant baseball coaches who was studying at a local college to be a teacher. He asked for my help to pass a math test required for his teaching license because of my recent success in standardized test and math competitions. I was glad to oblige and am proud to say he is now a teacher at my school. I think being able to tutor these people really allows me to help the community by allowing them to succeed in areas that they struggle, allowing for future

Throughout the history of the United States there has been extraordinary individuals both in business and government that have demonstrated their abilities to be affective leaders among the people in which they are in charge of. There are many definitions of what a leader is and what characteristics a leader should have. One man that demonstrates all aspects of a leader and that has been deemed on the list of one of the greatest presidents who has ever served respectfully belongs to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

As many scholars before him and many after him, Woodrow Wilson was a reformist, in that, he endeavored to change the way the government operated (Buck, Cox, Morgan, p. 5). He demanded the efficient operation of the government. He was actually one of the first politicians who specifically asked for efficiency. It was during the Progressive Era, a time of major change. Developments in trade and working conflicts were on the rise as well as the demand for services provided by government. All of this change happening so quickly also jumpstarted an increase in corruption and a continuing loss of values among the people. The spoils system, introduced by President Andrew Jackson, was prevalent. Per the spoils system, party loyalists were given administrative jobs regardless of qualifications or training. This combination of things prompted Wilson to question the development of the government in terms of handling these changes so as to maximize efficiency and utilization of resources. He analyzed the then current power regime, found them lacking in skill and corruptible, and offered suggestions to better the system and prevent future corruption. In response to the spoils system, Wilson demanded that there be a separation of politics and administration which he hoped would liken the government to corporations. With ‘The Study of Administration’ (1887), Wilson supplied the first published essay on public administration and established himself as a foremost authority in this field. In this essay, Wilson publicly launched the idea of government as administration.
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. When looking at the powers of different presidents, you have to look at their responsibilities and what power they actually have when it comes to decision making. Both the Iranian and American presidents have two different presidential powers, formal and informal. Formal powers are ones that are written into the constitution and have to be upheld by anyone who comes into power, for example both presidents can sign treaties with foreign countries. Informal power are not explicitly written into the constitution (1), but are done by the president, for example being persuasive, this is a power they need to use because that is how they will gain the presidential role, by persuading the public and to make international treaties they need to use the
There have been 43 Presidents of the United States, but they are not all equal. There are certain presidents that outrank other ones, especially the top ten best presidents this country has ever seen. According to The Wall Street Journal poll, the top ten presidents in order from number one to number ten are as follows: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, James Polk, and Andrew Jackson. There are certain characteristic traits in all ten of these presidents that make them the greatest Presidents of the United States. Some of these traits are being confident, committed, and trustworthy.
While Woodrow Wilson was president of the United States, he managed to accomplish some unthinkable feats, such as fighting for the passage of the 19th Amendment and establishing order in the entropic territories such as Haiti and the Dominican Republic by dispatching US Marines in these places. However, due to weak judgement and intuition, as well as inexperience, he made a feeble, manipulatable diplomat. During the Paris Peace Conference and throughout the ratification process for the Treaty of Versailles, Wilson’s ineptitude and stubbornness towards the Republican Party ultimately led the US senate to shoot down the Treaty.

To me, family is the most important thing in my life. They always encourage me to be the best I can be and nothing more. A quote that I think describes family to me is one by Alex Haley that states, “In every conceivable manner, the family is the link to our past, and bridge to our future.” Through the stories I hear from my mother and grandmother, I have a clear link to my families past and the generation of women that led to me. All the values these women held close to them throughout the years have led to the formation of myself and my values. Over the past three generations, the women in my family have overcome oppression. My mother, growing up in a time where women could never have aspirations to be CEO’s or politicians, somehow came out stronger. She saw what she didn’t want for her future, and jumped at the chance to start a new life in America. No single model of family life characterizes the American family, despite ideological beliefs to the contrary (Andersen). My family couldn’t be labeled an “Italian family” or an “American family.” We are a mix of the two cultures and ideologies, which is what makes us different. I am the first women in my mother’s family to be born and raised in America. My great grandmother had a complete different childhood and adolescence experience than I yet we still have a common cultural base. Ever since I was little I’ve been what you would call a “high achieving” kid. I did well in school, I did well in sports and I did well in my community. I was always the first one to class, and the last one to leave the field. I was the kid that all my friends’ parents compared their children to. I was the kid with a room full of trophies and awards. In my mind, the worst possible thing I could do was disappoint the people around me. In elementary school I was involved in every club imaginable. I was in the band, I played in the orchestra, I sang solos for chorus, I was in the math club, I was president of student council, I played travel soccer, I was involved in every activity possible, and I excelled in all of them. When I initially began this project, I figured it’d be pretty easy, perhaps even a little dull, because honestly I think my family is pretty amazing. The experiences I had growing up felt normal, but as I have gotten older, had more life experiences, and talked to others, I realize what I had was unique, special, and something I hope to replicate for my own posterity.
There are a lot of different cultures in the world we live in today. Finding the place you belong and discovering your own culture can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at culture as an individual versus culture in your family, or even within your community.
