The most effective way to establish freedom is to fight for things you should have. Being a proud citizen of the United States ensures that you will have the freedoms you need and want because they were already fought for. We can preserve freedom by honoring the people who died and fought for it a long time ago. Also, we should never abuse our freedoms we are given, or they can be taken away. We should follow the laws created to protect us. Also we should respect others freedoms. Honoring the ones who died and being a respectable citizen of the United States is how we can establish and preserve freedom. First and foremost, we need to establish our freedom by being proud that we are “the land of the free and home of the brave” in the United States of America. Our ancestors fought in the Civil War to get the freedoms we have today, which are outlined in the Constitution. The Gettysburg Address states, “...that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain-that this nation, Under God, shall have a new birth of freedom…” (Lincoln p.120). We have freedoms that not all countries have. The United States has given us freedoms such as speech, religion, and press. These freedoms should not be taken advantage of, nor should we take them for granted. The United States Constitution: A Graphic Adaptation states, “The Bill of Rights spells out what freedoms the government may not take away. It is there to protect your rights not to give them to you” (A Graphic Adaptation p.87). This provides evidence that our freedoms are more like privileges, not rights.
