He received a boom box for his birthday one year and from there, the rest is history. Jay-Z is one of the most talented rapper alive. Many rappers including J. Cole and Kanye West idolize him. His songs paint pictures and tell stories. He uses his past experiences as the base of many of his rhymes. Every line of every verse has a detailed meaning. When most musicians become famous it is common that they lose touch with their culture, family, and become obsessed with making money. Many come in with a certain singing or rapping style but change what makes them unique for a record deal. In the hip-hop scene rappers start to dress themselves in many expensive designer clothing labels and diamond accessories, however, for Nigerian-American hip-hop MC Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, stage name Wale, this is a different story. Unlike many rappers, Wale is noteworthy and respected for the exact opposite: he embraces his culture and is interested in becoming famous for just simply being himself.
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.

In 1997 he went to the Rap Olympics in Los Angeles where a few producers were very impressed and took a demo to Dr. Dre. After the two met, they recorded four songs within the first six hours of working together, creating his first album Marshall Mathers LP. That album was the first rap album to ever be nominated for “Album of the Year” and won 3 Grammy awards. In the first week the album was released, it sold 1.76 million copies in the U.S. which is a record for a solo artist. Eminem has released 10 albums, all rap music. He would spend hours...
The problem that laid in his way, was the social stigma at the time. In the early 90’s rap was dominated by the “gansta” rap scene. People like Tupac, Biggie and Dr. Dre ran the industry at that point and there was no room for Kanye and his pink polo. Kanye was seen as a producer first and foremost, since that’s what he was so good at and that’s all he had done up until that point. It wasn’t until the year 2000 that Kanye was brought onto Roc-A-Fella records with Jay-Z where his producing really started to shine. Helping produce Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint, the album was a huge success and lead to the revitalization of Jay-Z’s career. Kanye didn’t get a chance to make his own record until the following year (even though he had been working on it for almost 3 years now) when Roc-A-Fella finally gave him the go ahead. Kanye started his production of The College Dropout. It was also around this time that Kayne started a relationship with a girl named Alexis Phifer. Their relationship would be on and off again for the next few

Eminem has proved to be one of those artists by his flow in putting words together, controversy against other celebrities, and not giving up on his career because he was a different race then all the other hip-hop artists they are. Hip-hop was popular around the late 70's and was most known around the early 80's. Rap artists during those times were mainly African-American, they were a few white hip-hop artists, but weren't really successful. The Beastie Boys was an all white trio of hip hop artists, they were a successful group, Eminem looked up to this trio and thought that he can be as famous as they were. When Vanilla Ice blew up in the early 90's, Eminem lost his interest in being a famous music artist. Vanilla Ice wasn't as successful as The Beastie Boys were, that broke Eminem's heart because he thought he could be another Vanilla Ice. He thought just cause he was white, he wouldn't be one of those lucky white hip-hop artist from his time. He didn't stop making music when he thought he wouldn't be successful, so he kept trying and trying till he got where he was. Eminem released "The Slim
Fans of hip hop admire Eminem for his bluntness towards the harsh realities of life and his acknowledgement of criticism against his personality. Contrary to the norm in gangsta culture, Eminem directs the spotlight on his first-hand adverse experiences throughout his childhood and development into adulthood. Although he has written songs about his rise to glory, boasting about his possessions is certainly not included in those lyrics. A major source of his credibility resides with his superior handling of unfavourable judgement. As critics discredit his rising popularity with the help of institutional racism, he admits this fact on one of his tracks, stating that “if I was black, I would’ve sold half”.

Firstly, there are different types of music, and each has its own features. These sounds and features are what I admire in music because to me it creates a new form of communication to one’s consciousness. It stimulates our mind and gives it a sense of harmony and peace through the hardships that life poses for us. As a kid, I would always listen to music from any genre, deciding which genre would complement me the most as I grew older. In middle school, I remember going on the computer and finding a website/program where I could make my own beats. From that day on, I spent countless of hours each day making sure the tune sounded proper and pleasurable for my ears. At first, it wasn’t good, but eventua...
