I agree with the student’s opinion that weekly homework and quizzes are a negative and direct incentive. Positive incentives, especially in learning settings, are usually not enough to encourage students to complete tasks in a timely manner. Students understand that if they do not finish the work assigned they will get a bad grade in the course, or maybe fail the course, which makes it an encouraging negative incentive. Even though gaining knowledge is the main goal when taking a course, the incentive most students focus on throughout the time in class is the negative and direct aspect of it. I could say that going to college and taking this course has the opportunity cost of lost income from working instead, but I am not paying out of pocket for this course. I could be working a full time job and be making the same or less amount of money the scholarship is giving me now with my Associates degree. Being part of my scholarship is technically paying for me to go to school, and having a Bachelor's degree means gaining a career and a better paying job post graduation. Since I am a business major, this course will be helpful for my future career and help me make better financial decisions. If students had questions, maybe there will no time to answer of all them in the limited amount of time. However, the benefit would be that the student could bring a new perspective to the class and bring up more ideas during discussions. Also, the University will benefit from the increase of students in the school because it will promote the school, bring more income, and give the school more capital to invest in more buildings or programs- overall it will help the school have a positive growth. Taking into account that only one student will be added to each class, that number will not be a really big cost when it comes to individual classes because it will be easy to manage just one extra student during class. On the other hand, one more extra student in every class UTD means a very large number of more students overall, and that creates a much greater marginal benefit than
