Poseidon, the great Greek ruler of the sea , horses and the earthquakes. His ancestry comes from the family of the Olympians that roamed the world in 2200 B.C . With the father of Cronus and mother of Rhea and having the famous brother of Zeus. Who fortunately saved him from being ate by his notable father ,Cronus. He was saved when Rhea,” the mother of all gods”, had deceived Cronus into eating a rock instead of eating another one of his offspring (“Rhea”) .Similar to what Cronus he did to Hestia , Pluto , Hera and Demeter. Which at that time would have been the newborn, Zeus. When he ate the stone he resulted by throwing up all the children.

Leading to the overthrow of the great ruler known as Cronus("The myths of Poseidon, God of the sea"), the battle of Titanomony. They released three cyclopes from the pit of the underworld and to help aid them in the war.The cyclopes returned a favor to them by granting Zeus’ power of lightning, the “invincibility helmet” of Hades and most importantly the trident of Poseidon.The three pronged weapon gave Poseidon the powers need to defeat Cronus and the Titans. Using the powers given to them by the cyclopes eventually overthrowing his powerful father ,Cronus, with the help of his brothers Zeus and Hades in the battle of Titanomony. The battle resulted in the Titans and the monster of the underworld ,Typon, getting sent into the “underworld” known as “Tartarus”.By defeating Cronus they split their power into three. Zeus getting the power to rule the sky and Earth.Then Hades got the privilege to rule the area known as the "underworld" .The third and final area split up between Zeus, Poseidon and Hades was ruling of the sea .("The myths of Poseidon, God of the sea"). ...Poseidon immediately responded by striking his trident against the ground.Creating a tidal wave on its way to Athens.The tidal wave roared into the city but Poseidon was not finished with his revenge at that.He took his revenge one step further and had put a “curse” over the city of Athens (Hatzitsinidou).This story is used by the people of Greece to help explain why the city of Athens has been experiencing terrible droughts since the start of time.

Poseidon is a very important God to the Greek culture.Not just because of his powers and ruling of the sea but also because he explains many natural disasters.The Greek culture uses him to also help explain why several events that had occurred in the history of Greece.Giving reasoning to something that they really don’t understand why something had happened.Thats why the Poseidon is famous Greek God that he is today.
