There are no fixed standards in this respect. The number of officers required depends on citizens’ desire pertaining to service levels such as response time, proactive patrol, traffic law enforcement, patrol visibility in residential neighborhoods, and extent of follow-up investigation. Staffing decisions, particularly in patrol, must be made based upon actual workload and very few police agencies have the capability of conducting that analysis. Intuitional theory it’s defined in different ways for instance, “Institutional theory addresses the central question of why all organizations in a field tend to look and act the same (DiMaggio & Powell, 1983).” This definition illustrates how organizations change their response to their institution based on the environment, and can achieve stability in their own. An organization when it comes to surviving tents to turns its focus outwardly in order, to acknowledge their influence constituencies and the value that they represent. Police agencies are ideals samples of an institutional organization, for the reason being that they have to display in their organizational performance and policy’s that they care about citizens concerns.
Young people and the police have, for many years, experienced a tense and confrontational relationship (Borgquist & Johnson et al., 1995). This has led to a great wealth of literature based upon the notion of police-youth interaction. Much of this literature has tended to focus upon juvenile criminality and the reasons why young people commit such seemingly high levels of crime. Whilst the relationship between young people and the police force has been widely theorised and explained, there is very little literature on juvenile attiudes towards the police. Research that concerns societies attitudes towards the police force tends to focus upon the views and opinions of adults (Hurst and Frank, 2000). In this first section of my literature review I am going to focus upon work that allows us to gain a deeper understanding of why young people are so important when looking at crime. This section will allow us to comprehend the ways in which, literature suggests, young people view the police. This knowledge will provide a basis for my research in which I look more specifically at youth attitudes towards PCSO’s.
More police officers doesn’t mean less crime because many of the crimes committed such as burglary, robbery, auto theft, larceny and vandalism which are preventable cannot be prevented if the response time is too slow. Even though more officers were on the job, even the fasted response had little influence of crime since the crime reports made came a significant time after the actually occurrence ,therefore flawing even the fastest police response.
The lack of training police officers is causing unnecessary incidents, is it true? The first step is to weed out the ones who just are not right to be a officer. The next step is to find the ones who fit the needs of the department. Medical and psychiatric testing, personal interview, and background information is used when identifying if a person is a good fit. There is research that has identified five personality characteristics that allows a police officer to excel in his or her job: extrovert, emotional stability, agreeable, conscientious, and open to experience. People also need to be aware of working in a high crime area. Even if the person has all five traits, but can’t handle the stress they may need to find another profession. There may be times new hires come from another department, but before hiring they need to talk to the previous employer. There may be certain reasons that the officer for hire is wanting to move to a different department. They could have been disciplined or terminated if they had not agreed to resign. This is not okay for the officers are not taking the consequences for their behavior.

Police officers are forced to make decisions every day from deciding whether or not to pull someone over for speeding to whether or not to use lethal force on a threat. My opinion on the officers in shootings is that these officers may take more shots than needed or miss a lot of their shots but it’s going to happen. Most of the police forces do not record such stats and I think they should. However people don’t know how stressful it must be to be in a situation where a police officer is in danger and must protect himself and others from a threat and it is his duty to make these shoot don’t shoot decisions. I also think that police officers should be more cautious and make sure they do every thing right.

The laws written by the legislature are ever changing and adapting to the world we live in. The roles in a county agency may differ from a city or municipal agency.
