a. How is policy practice similar to and different from planned changed at the micro level?
Policy practice and planned change are similar in the idea that both attempt to promote social justice for all individuals while also addressing social problems. Additionally, policy practice and planned change are based on the same values. Planned change at the micro level and policy practice are both based on the values of equality, access, dignity, worth of all individuals, opportunity, and fairness. Like planned change at the micro level policy practice should also be measured and evaluated to determine the effectiveness and efficiency. On the other hand, policy practice and planned change at the micro level are different in a number of ways. Planned change at the micro level is intended to assist individuals, families, and possibly smaller groups while policy practice is on assisting a larger number of individuals. Furthermore, policy practice is greatly influenced by power and politics. “The art of gaining, exercising, and retaining power in order to influence and enact social polies is the goal of policy practice” (Garthwait, 2014, p. 116). If DCS gets involved with a family there are social policies that ensure that casing planning is done correctly, reasonable efforts are made to reunify families, and that guide adoption. Additionally there are social policies to prevent discrimination in education, employment, and housing. Furthermore, there are social policies that determine federal and state benefits such as TANF, SNAP, and HIP. At the local, state, and federal level there are policies that provide funding for different types of community resources such as energy assistance
