This is the latest in our series of all time starting nines for some of college baseball’s most successful programs. Players' professional careers were not considered, just their college careers — along with consideration given to their positional fits as well as a batting order that could provide a combination of a high batting average, speed and power. ALL-TIME STARTING NINES: Arizona | FSU | LSU | So. Cal. | Miami | Stanford | Texas | So. Car. Picking the Titans' all-time starting nine was no easy task. With four national championships and three Golden Spikes winners, Cal State Fullerton has quite the bevy of collegiate baseball legends to choose from. Outfielder: John Fishel (82-85) Fishel played a lot of games with Cal State Fullerton, which led to a lot of at-bats. …show more content…
While his name is in the record books for offensive numbers, he was known to flash the glove and make big plays, still the leader in assists in Fullerton’s history. Bacani is the Titans' all-time leader in runs, walks, and hit-by-pitches, but he’s also in the top five in games played, hits, doubles, triples, total bases and could swipe some bags too, with 70 in his career. Colon was a three-time All-American for the Titans.Cal State Fullerton AthleticsColon was a three-time All-American for the Titans.Shortstop: Christian Colon (2008-10) Another deep position with several options, but it is hard to overlook what Colon accomplished in Fullerton. Colon began his Titans career as a Freshman All-American but didn’t stop there. He earned All-American honors the next two seasons. Colon is still in the top 10 in several categories like hits, runs, and total bases, but his claim to fame is when he and then-teammate Gary Brown were the first pair of Titans to be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft in the same year. Starting pitcher: Dave Weatherman
In 1965, when Nolan was a Senor, he was voted “Most Handsome.” That same year he was drafted by the Mets in the eighth round. Can you believe that 294 people were taken over him. He started pitching in Marion, Virginia, which was the Appalachian Rookie League. The next year he played in Greenville, South Carolina. This league was the Single A Western Carolinas League. He then was promoted to William...

Roger Clemens started his dominance of baseball in 1981 at San Jacinto junior college. That year he compiled a 9-2 record and was drafted by the New York Mets. He chose not to sign with the Mets and instead continued his college career at the University of Texas. There he again showed signs of brilliance. In two seasons at Texas he compiled a 25-7 record, was a two-time All-American, and led his team to a College World Series title. Again, Major League Baseball came calling and this time Clemens would answer.
The game of baseball can be divided into three broad categories: hitting, pitching, and defense. No other facet of the game gets as much attention as hitting. For example, every year the MLB puts on a home run derby. No other part of the game draws as much attention. The traditional statistic that measure hitting ability is batting average (BA or AVG). To find a players batting averag...

The best recruiting class in NCAA history came in and changed the game. Before they came to college, players still wore short shorts and the only people caught wearing black socks on a basketball court were 60-year olds trying to be young again. They changed the game with their great basketball skills, and their swagger. The road to greatness wasn't very easy for some though; they lived a tough life, and used that as motivation to drive them to greatness. They were are Michigan's Fab Five.
Since then he has led his team to five world series titles and become the team captain. He is known for his good looks and quiet confidence. He is still playing shortstop for the Yankee’s today and never stops improving. More world series titles are seen in his future.
Cano really excelled in New York at Yankee Stadium. He could hit homeruns with relative ease and was a constant threat in the lineup, as well as on the field with his smooth play at second base. Cano’s ‘sweet spot’ for
Brandon Vaughn Burlsworth was famous for being the number 1 greatest walk-on college football player ever for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was also well known for his thick black glasses and comparison to comedian Drew Carey.
Even though there are a multitude of famous Arkansans dead or alive right now, Brandon Burlsworth went from a lost cause in the football world to one of the most renowned walk-on’s in college history.
The first player I am going to tell you about is considered the best hitting catcher of all time. He has three batting titles and has been to six All-Star games. His name is Joe Mauer. Mauer made his MLB debut for the Twins in 2003, but only played in three games because of a leg injury. His first really good season was in 2006, when he hit .347 with a .429 OBP and hit 13 home runs with 84 RBIs. This was his first ever batting title. In 2007, he was injured for a couple months of the season, while his average dipped to .293. He 2008, he rebounded with a .328 batting average with a .413 OBP with nine home runs and 85 RBIs. In 2009, Mauer had an incredible year. He started the year on the disabled list where he was all of April. His first game back was on May 1, and on his first swing, he hit a home run. He ended up 28 home runs and 96 RBIs that year along with an incredible .365 batting average and an amazing .444 OBP. He put up similar numbers in 2010 except that his homers decreased a little bit. In 2011 he was hurt for most of the year, which meant that his numbers went way down, but in 2012 he was back on track. In 2013, he was also hurt quite a bit, but put up quality numbers....
After doing some research, I do consider Roberto Clemente a Visionary Leader. Not only was he a great baseball player, but he was also a great humanitarian. Roberto Clemente’s motto was “if you have a chance to help others and fail to do so you are wasting your time on this earth” (Biography.com, 2017). Roberto Clemente gave his life to this motto. On December 31, 1972, he boarded a plane to deliver food, clothing and medicine to the victims of a devastating earthquake in Nicaragua. He knew the plane was in bad shape but he still took that risk and got on it. According to the Thomas N. Barnes Center of Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017c), “Courage should empower you to take necessary personal or professional risks” (p.16). Roberto
Kauffman, Buck O’Neil, and Jackie Robison and so on. The one player you might recognize from the list of people that I named was Jackie Robison I know that he didn’t official play for the royals but he played for another team that was based out of Kansas City during the 1940’s known as the Kansas City Monarchs the Negro league team that played. The named that a lot of Kansas City Royals fans think of is George Brett. George Brett was considered one of the greatest third basemen in the Major League History. George was also 13-time All-Star and he also was the first player in history to win the batting titles in three different decades like 1976, 1980 and 1990. George also led the Royals to their first every World Series in 1985. Another name that might pop out would be Mr. Bo Jackson. Bo joined the Royals one year after the won the World Series in 1985. The year of 1989 Bo Jackson was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the All-Star Game for his outstanding offense and defensive plays. The final big named person from the Kansas City Royals is Buck O’Neil was the first African-American coach to coach in the Majors and also he has seat in Kauffman Stadium for he where he use to recruit players named the Buck O’Neil Seat where anyone in can sit if they are nominated by community for spectacular community
In 1992, Lewis, armed with a full scholarship, enrolled at the University of Miami, at the time home to one of the country's best football programs. He quickly became a vital piece in a vaunted Hurricanes' defense. Overall, he ranks fifth all time in school history in tackles, and at the end of his junior year was runner-up for the Butkus Award as the nation's best linebacker.
