Doctors often refer patients to physical therapists, as the therapy offers a positive and meaningful alternative to surgery and/or medications. A physical therapist works with individuals suffering from conditions ranging from neurological traumas to athletic injuries. The therapist conducts a thorough assessment of the patient and develops a treatment plan that helps to increase strength, improve mobility and lessen pain. Often, treatment plans include stretches and exercises, using machines together with hands-on techniques, with the goal being to increase range of motion, improve motor function and build muscle strength.
