As many of my fellow classmates and I discussed on our last day, this class has changed our lives in ways we did not expect. The knowledge I personally have gained from our readings taught me about how different cultures approach philanthropy and practice different methods of giving. This information was made more real by the personal experiences that I was able to hear from my classmates and from you. Hearing these stories allowed not only for a better understanding of viewpoints that are different than mine, but also for an understanding of the amount of diversity that exists among gender, race, ethnicity, or cultural groups. I was able to look through the lense of my own values to discover what aspects of philanthropy are most important to me, and how this impacts my treatment of others. All around I learned a great deal about how to be a better philanthropist, friend, and human in society, because I had the privilege of taking this class. …show more content…

The article “Minorities: Part of the New Face of Philanthropy” discusses the topic of minority’s alternate ways of giving, explaining that minority groups have always had philanthropy as an important tradition in their cultures, despite some statistics that show lower giving rates for minorities.
