The Pharmaceutical field is very versatile and has expanded in many aspects, which has lead to my fascination with pharmacy. The countless opportunities and the potential in this field are qualities that make a career in pharmacy especially invigorating and meaningful to me. My interest has flourished from various seeds, rooting from the experiences I had, shaping me into who I am today.
I am a first generation American with Japanese- Korean heritage. I treasure my multi-cultural background that pervades every aspect of my life. However, I have also become a very proud American. Learning a great deal from my parents and taking the opportunities they never had in their home countries, I am grateful to be where I am today. Although my parents missed the chance to receive higher education, they have provided me and my sisters with only the best by investing in hard work and perseverance. The font-row-view of the rewarding results of their dedication and efforts have led me to be where I stand today, and has encouraged me to also strive for a high standard future as well.

Rather, what my mother planted within me was a seed that led me to pharmacy. Instead of teaching me to focus mainly on grades or being accepted into a reputable university, my mother taught me that life is precious and short. Thus, because life is so brief, it should be spent in the best way possible: living in service for others. Listening to her life lessons and growing up embraced in her methods of life, I have been fortunate enough to be able to procure an understanding of the sense of fulfillment that comes from assisting others. The pharmaceutical field allows me to personally assist and provide services for each patient. In addition, it allows me to engage in my other passions in healthcare and
Subsequent to attending a week of chemistry and medicine lectures during the Sutton Trust Summer School programme at St Andrews University and attending master classes at local universities, I know that I am committed to continue with my scientific education. The experience of lectures and the practical investigations in the laboratory have given me an indication of how to analyse and interpret data at such an advanced level. Studying pharmacology would allow me to develop my knowledge to a higher level, learning more about for example how the derivative of the opium poppy, morphine, works by binding to opioid receptors in order to reduce the impulses from nerve cells therefore relieving pain. I would also be able to explore further how high doses of morphine can cause respiratory depression, but more interestingly how these effects can be reversed by a competitive opiate antagonist which can bind to opioid receptors without activating them.
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
My mom always used to say,” Look at the person as a whole to understand the condition.” Even though it made little sense to me as a child, I learned the concept when I was doing my Internal medicine rotation. The passion of knowing that I could improve a person’s quality of life drew me into pursuing medicine. The multitude of different organ systems that one covers while practicing medicine fascinated me to delve into a field that encompasses them all - Internal Medicine. In addition, I enjoyed the challenges that Internal Medicine would provide me with its diversity. Altogether, Internal Medicine was the amalgam of everything I learned in my medical practice and decided to pursue my residency.
Internal Medicine has always been my number one choice for residency. It offers constant intellectual challenges, imparts a vast ocean of medical knowledge and ultimately establishes a strong relationship with the patient. The vast diversity of challenging clinical conditions, degree of illness, medical procedures, continual advances in treatment and the ability to cure diseases is what appeals me the most .
Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. I desire to pursue a career in Pharmacy so as to gain practical experience in these aspects of research.
The longer I work in healthcare, the more it stands out to me as an especially compelling and rewarding field. I have enjoyed great personal and professional development as a result of my immersion in the modern medical system. As a rehabilitation technician for Loyola University Medical Center, the work I do providing patient care fills me with satisfaction and purpose. This experience has inspired me to dedicate my life to a career in medicine. I am committed to serving all people and contributing to the medical community as a practitioner, advocate, and leader.
My parents were ordinary people who escaped the claws of communism to seek a desired life in America. Before me, there were two people whose bravery could be admired—my parents. I own them the outcome of my life. I got to receive a education unfamiliar to my parents. Because of them, this is how I came out. This is who I am.
As I reflect on the events that have made this “ American Dream” a reality, I realize that my accomplishments all came to life through the support of my parents and several different teachers who helped me emotionally and academically as I pursued the “American
It is with great excitement that I submit my application to the pharmacy residency program. Through my experiential training I have developed an interest in critical care medicine and I plan to pursue it as my specialized training. The involvement of multiple disease states and fields of study, and the countless opportunities for multidisciplinary practice is what drives my interest in the field.
From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
Ever since I was a child like any other on, I was blessed with ignorance to the world around me due to the curtain my parents raised above my eyes. Although I still noticed the strained voices in the middle of the night, and the looks of worry my parents flashed when they thought I wasn’t looking I thought the world was the most perfect place in time. However, as I grew up I was proved incorrect when I learned that my parents depended on me, and my brother to acquire the American Dream. Thus they counted on us to get the highest grades to be able to go to college on a scholarship. Not wanting to waste all the efforts they made making sure we had everything we needed; I resolved to do my best in school.
A job in this industry has allowed me to be comfortable with working with the public and improved my social skills. From a young age, I have competed in kickboxing which is an integral part of my life. It has taught me countless lessons and the mindset of never giving up has been ingrained into me. My determined attitude reinforces my belief that I could do medicine and excel. Art is also something I feel connected with which is why I took it at AS level and achieved an A. Exhibitions are regular ventures for me and help me unwind.
Growing up in a less developed country has not only offered me difficulties but has also shown me the value of dedication. Both of my parents have sacrificed a lot over the years so they could have an opportunity to attend college and get a better life. My dad a former electrical engineer and my mom a former journalist have always faced many challenges throughout life and because of this, they decided to instill in me the same passion and dedication that they have had in their lives, so I could have the same chance to succeed just as they have done. Because of their support I have been able to have an outstanding performance in both academics and athletics.
Everyday I am reminded of the struggles of my parents as they immigrated to a new country. The sacrifice that parents tend to take for their children, I saw and appreciated, and that become part of me. I am not ashamed of my parents, not ashamed of having been poor, but rather humbled and prideful of the work that was done to take us out of misery. The work and perseverance that took to find a home, that would allow young people like me the safety and freedom to discover and create. This something that I wish to reflect in my everyday life. I don’t just represent myself, I also represent the two people in my life which cared so much for my well being that they risked leaving their own home for the search of
I’m proud to be in America because if I was in Vietnam I would have done same job as my parents did in America. Education is what had made me become successful throughout elementary to
