Pharmacist Career Paper

A pharmacist plays a very important role in health and patient care. They are responsible for many commitments in the medical field. This includes filling prescriptions with the proper amount of medicine that the patient will need, giving advice on medications that the prescriptions should or should not be taken with, and matching the right prescription with the patient’s illness. They also superintend pharmacy technicians and make sure that they are doing their job properly. Pharmacists contribute to the medical field in many ways that are essential to patient needs. (“Chapter 40: Pharmacists,” 2003). The educational requirement to become a pharmacist is ultimately a doctorate’s degree. To achieve your doctorate’s degree some programs first require you to obtain an associates or bachelor’s degree in science. You would have to take courses such as biology, epidemiology, chemistry, etc. to be eligible to transfer into a doctorate’s program. Considering pharmacist need to stay up to date on new medical information, after a doctorate’s degree is obtained, courses will still be taken throughout the career. (Decker, 2016).

Pharmacists use problem-solving skills to provide patients with the appropriate medicine. A pharmacist should be reliable, trustworthy and have the ability to pay “attention to detail.” (“National Center for O*NET Development”) My personality traits after taking the interest test geared towards enterprising, investigation, and social interests in which I think are similar skills to the ones that are expected for pharmacists to have. Pharmacist should be sociable, it’s good to interact with patients and address their concerns. They should have exceptional thinking skills when investigating medicine and cures.
