Ladies, say goodbye to doctor’s appointment, injections and mood swings because the male birth control will hit the market soon. Women have been using the pill since the contraceptive was first introduced in the 1960s. Although the pill granted women the power to be in charge of their own body, this also raised responsibility for the women. This news has become the equivalence to the women 1960s for men, however, there is a vast difference in views and attitudes towards the male birth control. When the male contraceptive was first announced in the media, society has viewed the launch of the birth control differently than when the female pill was launched in the 60’s. The female pill has been seen as a women’s rights issue, a “special interest group” issue, an identity politics issue, a liberal issue. Apart from uncomfortable and sometimes life-threatening side effects, the female pill is not completely foolproof. Women have to slap on patches, take the pill and keep checking monthly their IUDs to prevent pregnancy. Not only do they shoulder the financial and psychological burden of the pill, they are also with the most responsibility. With the male pill, women will have the opportunity to share the responsibility with her partner, however, trust will be tested on both ends. Both partners are equally trusting each other to be using the birth control. With the introduction of the pill, women are predicted to be less rigid in taking their pills because they see the male pill as a backup. On the other hand, men have a higher chance of forgetting to take their pill for typically men are “hopeless at remembering things” which also causes a trust issue. Nevertheless, both sexes are equally responsible, however, women are more likely to be trusted to take the pill than
