Zoos as we know them have existed for centuries. They provide entertainment and educational opportunities for both children and adults. Zoos also encourage people to get outside and learn more about the world and the animals in it. They provide opportunities for research and conservation programs that would not happen otherwise. For my Formal Report, I propose that the Bryan and College Station city councils should join together and build a zoo.

Why a zoo is needed.
Bryan and College Station's sources of entertainment are extremely student-focused, and while the cities should certainly cater to college students to some extent, as they rely on students to bring in revenue, it is important not to focus on them so much that the town's residents and tourist potential are left forgotten. I am afraid, though, that this is exactly what has happened. While the students have Northgate and A&M related events, residents with families do not have much more than parks and the odd events hosted by the city for entertainment. And people have noticed. According to 120 reviews on Niche, a website that collects reviews of cities, the lack of entertainment makes up over half the complaints on the city. The BCS Zoo will help change this.

Like other zoos, we will host internship opportunities for 8 to 10 weeks during the summer and will be open to all college student who are currently working on a degree in a related field. There will be several different types of internships offered: veterinarian, zookeeper, and non-animal care internships, such as marketing or Human resources. This is a win-win situation, as students will gain valuable experience in their field of study and the BCS Zoo will gain free (albeit somewhat untrained)
