Endangerment of Blue Whales Blue Whales have been hunted and slaughtered for their blubber since the 1900s. Whaling was a practice of hunting and killing whales for their meat, blubber, and whalebones. Not only were they used for material but also for sport. Whaling is still being practiced, even though to has been banned illegal. Blue Whales have been also injured by human error. Such as a fishing net entangling whales, causing them to be injured or even strangled to death. Whales have been hit in killed by ships because of people not paying attention. Pollution of the whales habitat is also been causing the Blue Whale population to decline. The Importance of Blue Whales Whales are at the top of the ocean's food chain, making them very important for other animals (WorldWildlifeFoundation (WWF) ). They also hold a key role in the nutrient cycle where organisms need them to survive(Mynott). The whales waste is a food source for organisms in the ocean. In some place, the blue whales are very good way of making money when near the coastal areas as a tourist attraction. The reason why humans need to help whales is to keep the others animals in the ocean alive. Their decline in population is because of human's way of injury and killing them.
