Take a moment and imagine yourself living an ordinary yet happy life. You’re good financially and happy where you are, but what if something you could’ve done in the past made your life greater today. Taking a Responsible Risk is scary, but no one really knows how great the outcome can be.
What exactly is a “Responsible Risk” you may ask. Taking a responsible risk means that you are willing to try something new regardless of the outcome. Not knowing the end result is why people don’t like taking risk. For example, let’s say a student had a big project coming up that was worth half of their semester grade. Hypothetically speaking what if instead of following the rubric completely they think outside of the box and do the project a little different but more effort was put in to making it. This is an example of risk taking because it shows how going an extra mile, not on the right track could get a better result than doing it how every other student will.

Most people are more likely to be a follower than a leader and this stops people achieving more in life. A poem called “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is about how a man is walking in the wood and comes upon a two-way path. He stands and tries to decide which path to go down and while he’s debating he notices how one path looks well-kept while the other path looks more old and seems as if people haven’t walked down there in a long time. People misunderstand this poem and just think that it’s a man on a walk, but when you think about the poem and its deeper meaning you see it’s a man trying to decide whether or not to take a risk and do something many people many haven’t done before and not just going down the more common path like everyone else does. Literature is a great way to inspire people to take more responsible risk in their own
Sidewalks are different shapes and sizes, people tend to make their own decisions to which way they would want to go. Going through the motions on a sidewalk is similar as going through the motions of life. There are many turns that could get you to your final destination and turns that can also get you into places you would not feel so comfortable being. Staying on the right path and trying to get to where you need to go isn’t so hard but when you have other sidewalks with nice grass and big beautiful street lights that can be a very big distraction to the eye and that could cause problems in your life. Nice sidewalks sometimes don't always tend to continue a nice path so they can be very believing at first but when you make it to the end
Margie Warrell explains how as a culture we don’t take enough risks. We do this because our modus operandi is to catastrophize and predict things will go wrong even though we often overestimate the risks. She also states that we expect things to be worse than they would be if they do turn out badly because our brains are wired to do so. Often we are pessimistic of our own abilities and so we expect we will be unable to cope with the consequences, thus we try to avoid risk so we don’t have to worry about needing to fix things in the aftermath. While overplaying the risks of doing something we downplay the risks of following the status quo—we try to persuade ourselves that it is better than taking the risk even if the status quo is sub-par.
Taking a risk is something very few people are willing to do. If you think about it all the greats had to take a risk before they succeed in anything. In The Odyssey, Odysseus takes a huge risk fighting in wars, trying to get back to his beloved Penelope. Much like Vincent Willem van Gogh , A painter, who took huge risks living off of his art, but now he is One of the greatest painters of all times. They both risked their lives to succeed in something great.Van Gogh could have gone broke and starved to death Odysseus could have died at sea or in war. People take risks every time they get up and present a paper or show people there art work. You could mess up, but you also could succeed. This quote from book twelve, “ But as I sent them on toward
When I was younger, I really wouldn’t take risks. When I did take the risks, they would help me or others. For example, I asked questions about test and homework that people wouldn’t have. By asking these questions, it would help me become a bigger risk taker. Risk taking can turn into a horrible situation, but taking risk can save lives and help people who were to afraid.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Risks. To me, risks come in packages in my everyday life. I know I am at risk when I step on a field or court because I can get injured. Some of these injuries include tearing ACL’s, or breaking your wrist. I also am at risk when I am running around the corner of Emerson Ave along the yellow lines because I can be taken away by someone I don’t know.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
Life on the Road It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences.
Risk has been defined by Kenney (2010) as a situation that puts human values and/or life at stake and although there was always the idea that risk can be a negative as well as a positive thing, after the twentieth century the latter was considered irrelevant and suddenly the terms ‘risk’ and ‘danger’ became interchangeable (Hope, 2013). When it comes to young people in particular, their overall lives have become a persistent
Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
Not every event has a guaranteed outcome- sometimes, one has to take a gamble in the game of life. There are some, however, who would prefer to travel within the safe, confined lane of actions with a definite outcome. Deciding whether or not to take risks in life can be tricky, but as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.” This quote means that people should take risks in their endeavors, because life is precisely about trying new things and experiences. As the quote explains, taking risks in life is a vital step to success, fulfillment, and gaining more out of experiences.
To take a chance, one is accepting the possibilities of what could happen from the choice they have made.
Have you ever woken up in the morning and felt like not going to the college the whole day? Of course you have. You think of skipping all the classes, but then you contemplate on the consequences of the choice. The attendance will suffer. You’d miss out on that important question or in some people’s case you’d miss out on the exam. You vote against it and go. Now in the above case you had a choice of whether to go to the classes or not, and you chose to go. That decision may prove to be fruitful or a rather disastrous one, but whatever it may be you have to deal with the consequences that come with it. We make countless decisions every day, every moment and once a choice has been made, the actions play out, and the consequence is delivered. We have to live with those consequences. Our choices and decisions guide our lives and build our futures. Whether people notice it or not, the choices we make today affect our tomorrow.
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
Good risk taking is considered to be a risk that is relatively safe and rewarding in its outcomes. This can include any form of sport such as swimming, football, basketball. It can also include academic accomplishments such as high achievement, creative abilities such as dancing or music, community service and even travelling around the world. Bad risk taking is often associated with the use of alcohol, drugs, unprotected sex, reckless driving and illegal online activity (Raising children network, 2015). All of which present themselves in potentially dangerous environments and offer no beneficial outcome. When discussing these risks more often or not this form of good risk taking is often overshadowed by bad risk taking, especially when paired with teenagers in modern day society. However there is a major misconception with this viewpoint, as parents have a pre-conceived notion that teenagers act this way due to some form of
