The next thing you know you can’t move and you see someone with a blue shirt putting things into your arms and you hear sirens in the background. The guy goes “stay calm everything is going to be alright, you just been in a car accident,” this time you were lucky, but next time you can end up buried in a hole in the ground. Texting and driving is an issue that many Americans face on a daily basis, especially the younger population. Thanks to today’s trending technological advancements that are so easily accessible on our hand held devices, it’s becoming hard to not get distracted by everything going on around us while operating a vehicle. How do you think you would be able to drive a car, focus on the roads, and still be able to text on your phone? Sometimes people do not realize the difficultly in doing both at the same time, and sometimes put all of their focus on their phone instead of on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated “In 2008 texting while driving was the cause of 16% of accidents.” According to the AAA, “50% of teens have admitted to texting while driving.” This fact is a prime example of why we need to come together and find a way completely put an end to texting while driving. Many people do not realize that when you text and drive you are not only harming yourself, but you are also harming the lives of so many others. I do not believe that there is anyone who could look at texting and driving and say that there is any positive outcome coming out of that. Some may say that when you are texting and driving it is a good way of multi-tasking.
