Since 3rd grade, Texas and other states have been taking standardized test. Standardized testing has not improved student achievement nor brought up the United States national ranking. Students are more stressed than ever and are not taking the test seriously. The government should do away with standardized testing because there has not been any real improvement in our school systems or drastic improvement in student’s achievement. A standardized test is any form of test that requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from a common bank of questions. An English teacher at New Mexico 's Valley High School said in Aug. 2004 that many juniors just "had fun" with bubbling in their answers by guessing and making designs out of the score sheet. (“Is the Use of Standardized Tests Improving Education in America”) The older students in 7th grade through seniors in high schools already know that if they do not pass their test they will still pass to the next grade. The younger student like 3rd grade through 6th grade stressed the most. According to education researcher Gregory J. Cizek, anecdotes abound "illustrating how testing produces gripping anxiety in even the brightest students, and makes young children vomit or cry, or both." Using test scores to reward and punish teachers and schools encourages them to cheat the system for their own gain. If the teachers are cheating there is no point to keep phony scores. When a teacher starts cheating it shows what kind of person the teacher they are and how selfish they are for cheating on their students for their own
