The Star Spangled Banner is a sacred song in the United States of America. It not only is a symbol of the fight that soldiers have had to go through, but also a representation of freedom. When the National Anthem plays out of respect for our country, and those who fought for it, everyone is supposed to stand and remove their hats. Currently in the National Football League (NFL) there is a handful of players, mainly African Americans, that have been taking a knee or raising a fist during the play of our National Anthem. This I believe, is a great sign of disrespect for our country and our veterans. This I believe, is very immature and unnecessary. This I believe, should be put to a stop by the NFL and the players should be ashamed of himself for doing this. I am aware that the players have the right to do this, but there are many reasons why this should not be taking place. Of course the NFL can not directly stop the players that take a knee during the playing of our country's National Anthem because of the 1st amendment. However, these players are grown men, and are very influential. Many people look up to these players and will follow them. Children follow these player and grow …show more content…
This issue could cause a lot of conflict and could take a turn for the worse if not addressed properly. If addressed the wrong way it could be as bad as the Ferguson riots that happened a few years ago. I believe that the best thing for the NFL to do is let the players continue to do this and eventually they will stop. All of these players are very gifted and extremely luck that they are getting paid a lot of money to do something that they love. All in all, I believe that these players are mainly looking for attention and if we all just ignore them they will eventually stop what they are doing and realize what a great country they live
The NFL position in this article makes them look very greedy and indifferent about the overall health of their football players. One of the ethical perspectives that can be used to analyze the NFL's position in this article is deontology. Deontology is the perspective where rules is the defining factor for ethical decisions. From the deontology perspective it makes it seem that the NFL has decided not to follow the rules and even blurred the lines as to what potential injuries their players can get. They wanted their injured players to play without having to follow through the with proper procedure in verifying that the players are in conditions healthy enough to play. It looks as if the NFL cares only about bringing in money and not care about
Looking at the severity of injuries in the NFL in this day and age, and then looking at what the NFL does to protect players, the NFL is a business. Everything is politics. It has turned into who has the best stadium rather than who has the best players. The NFL is all about who has the best fans, not who has the best coach. The better fans you have, the more money you make, but the better coach you get, the more money you have to pay him. Growing up as a fan of the NFL, it saddens me to see the decline of the sport I love so much, but it is nearly inevitable. Soon enough, everyone in the NFL will be injured, and football will be over. The way things are going, players are dropping faster than we are gaining them. We only draft new players into the league once a...
In college there are hated rivals that can’t stand each other. This causes college fans to have lots of pride in their teams. College stadiums also have student sections, which take the atmosphere on game day to the next level. College players know how the fans feel. This inspires them to play their hardest, and leave everything on the field to represent their school. In the NFL, instead of playing for a team because you want to represent them, players will play for teams who offer them the longest and largest contracts. Players hold out from participating in training camp because they want a bigger contract, and some even sit out games. The NFL seems to be more like a business, and geared towards making money. NFL players holding out, and being focused on money angers fans. Not all players are like this, but fans feel that the ones like this are being
Well first why are people supporting the gambling of the NFL? Gambling could lead to addiction and fans could get carried away and lose a lot of money. If media covers all the teams and players then gambling occurs with who wins games and the coin toss and all the other main things in a NFL game. Also all the youth players have dreams of getting into the NFL, the media is crushing all those dreams by letting out information about brain injuries and concussions. This crazy action is causing parents to become much more involved with news of the NFL and has blocked their child of playing the game. The media needs to stop with the annoying finger pointing, the annoying blaming, and the annoying small issues that no one cares
The players have become employees of the NCAA as much as students -- employees with no compensation, which not only violates common decency but perhaps even the law.
When kneeling during the anthem, people disrespect those who have and still do fight for our freedom in the United States. The flag represents our freedom, which is what those who serve risk their lives for. According to USA TODAY, “NFL viewing ratings are down 5% from last year.” This could lead to decreased pay checks because they won’t receive money from the viewers.
Many students all across America stand and salute to the flag every morning and repeat these words, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, To the republic for which it stands, one nation, Under God, Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” There are controversy behind these words of historical allegiance, and that is why many people are refusing to stand for the pledge. This nation was founded upon freedom and liberties, and with those liberties comes with the freedom to choose your religion. The words “Under God”
An argument for this is that veterans have fought for our freedom, so for us to disgrace the flag is totally unexceptable. However, it has been pointed out when they are kneeling during the National Anthem they are using their rights that were fought for. A letter signed by 35 US veterans stated that "Far from disrespecting our troops, there is no finer form of appreciation for our sacrifice than for Americans to enthusiastically exercise their freedom of speech." [12]”. This demonstrates the idea that some customs can be ----(overtaken) if they have the right intentions.
When the morning announcements come on and say, “Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance,” people normally don’t think anything of it, but to stand up and recite a few lines to something they learned in kindergarden. However, some people may feel it is wrong to say the Pledge based upon a religion that they practice. Requiring students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance does violate the First Amendment due to the fact that they are protected under the Freedom of Speech clause. This is seen through The Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow case, The West Virginia Board of Education v. Barnette case, and The Massachusetts Supreme Court case. In the following cases, it is discussed whether or not it is fair to force students to stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance while in school.
The NFL has implemented a lot of new rule changes that have tremendously helped with player safety. Like head to head contact isn't allowed as much anymore. If players commit the "crime" either they can be fined money, penalized during the game, or suspended if they are reoccurring offenders.the NFL is trying to get away from a lot of the head to head contact and stop being known. Some could say the NFL is almost a circus these players do so much and don’t always get a lot in return the NFL is concerned with the revenue and not always the player safety.
This is why many people should take advantage of that instead of disrespecting it. Such as you have the right to state your opinion or vote. You also have a chance to create your own path in life rather than being told what is required of you. Another reason why players shouldn’t shame the flag is because politics shouldn’t be involved in sports. The whole reason why families enjoy going to live games or even watching them on tv Sunday evening is to have fun, not to have to listen to others boo each other during the pledge , which really is just as disrespectful as kneeling. Besides, why should it have to be taken to the extreme to which is now our president having to get involved and take action, such as threatening players that they might lose their job? Some players, more than likely, wouldn't be able to afford to lose this high of a paying job. Most importantly, the final reason why players should pay their respects to our flag is because every second of everyday brave, courageous men and women risk their lives to save ours from any and all foreign enemies. From minor battles and skirmishes to worldwide combat, our military is always on their feet; whether they are in the US, Iraq, or halfway around the world they never back down. Our service doesn’t care what race or religion you are. They fight for our country, they don’t trudge onto the field and announce we will be fighting for the whites in our country, now do
The National Football League (NFL) has been a staple on Sunday’s in America homes for quiet sometime. It provides excitement and generates billion’s of dollars, but what I told you that this league may lose viewers or even not exist in a few years. The NFL is a great brand, but what is potentially going up against may have you scratching your head as a parent to let your child even take a snap early in his football career if not taken care of.
them and put policies in place to help prevent injuries such as concussions. The NFL should not
Being an American is more than just living in America, or being born in this country. Many people talk about being American’s and they aren't even in this country. Being an American is a way of life that people adapt into by seeing how we act. People all over the world eat the same things that we eat, so that can't really be a way of being an American. To me, being an American is embracing our ways of life, not fighting for the other guys, and loving our anthem and the flag.
I believe we should have a new national holiday, National pride day. America already has a pride month, but many people just over look it as it it’s not even there. I believe that we should have a national pride day for many reasons, as America is strongly based on our rights as a citizen and is almost basically run by its people, we can’t make people accept other people who may like someone of the same gender or want to be the opposite gender. However we can do something to at least help people see that we are all the same none of us are different, even if we may seem a bit out of the normal.
