Motocross is my favorite sport; everyone that I am close with currently in my life for the most part is somewhat apart of that sport. Most of my friends, my brother, my dad, they all ride. My current job is 100 percent about motocross and hopefully my future career is based on the sport. Motocross is the type of sport where everyone knows each other and is one big community. Motocross is also one of the most dangerous sports. On any given day a rider can crash and that crash may be a career ender or one where they can just pick themselves right up and continue to ride. With so many injuries occurring daily in the sport you would only assume that these riders would want to keep themselves safe and injury free but that is not always the case. Some riders will decide to ride without proper gear or ride if they are injured which is extremely dangerous. The AMA should replace their current safety rules with stricter ones and include physicals for the riders to ensure they are healthy. The American Motorcycle Associate (AMA) is an association that dictates all the rules for the sport of motocross, all races whether they are professional or amateur races are conducted through the AMA. According to the AMA official rulebook all riders must wear appropriate gear while participating in a race, that gear includes: Helmet, shatter-proof goggles, long sleeve jersey, pants, and boots that are at least 8 inches tall (AMA 10). Although these rules are very much enforced there are still many injuries that a rider can face while riding. With the sport of motocross becoming more and more popular we want to make sure that the youth of the sport realize that it is a dangerous sport and that they need to protect themselves against injury and also for the veterans and current riders of the sport. That’s why I believe that in order to keep this sport around we need to make it safer and in order to do so the American Motorcycle Association need to add more safety rules and regulations to the sport.
At sometime in every single sport someone is always injured or getting injured. However, of all of the sports, research has proven that motocross is one of the sports with the highest risks. Supercross is the second most dangerous type of dirt biking racing out there. The fast paced racing and the uncertainty of knowing what the racer in front of you will do makes this such a dangerous type of racing. Motocross is little less dangerous because most of the racing is outdoors, not indoors in a small stadium. But the most dangerous type of dirt biking is freestyle. The difficult tricks, speed, and the height of the jumps makes this the most dangerous type of dirt biking. The risk taking behavior is played out in a cat and mouse type games that rides engage in all around the nation. There are many different riders who will do anything to get that extra thrill to get that adrenaline rush. 1. September 4, 2003 was a sad day for Pennsylvanians. Governor Rendell signed the new motorcycle helmet law into effect, sentencing riders to death and increasing the tax burden caused by this new law. Pennsylvania is the 31st state to repeal its all-rider helmet law (Berenson 2). The new law states “no helmet is required for a person 21 years of age or older who has been licensed to operate a motorcycle for not less than 2 full calender [sic] years or has completed a motorcycle rider safety course approved by the Department of Transportation or the Motorcycle Safety Foundation” (Lobel 3). This new helmet law has increased accident fatalities and the burden on taxpayers.

Millions of people all over the United States choose motorcycles over automobiles for the thrill, speed, and high performance capabilities. On the other hand, motorcycles are not at all the safest way of transportation. Motorcycles do not provide the passenger with the outer protection that cars provide, therefore, when one crashes, the results are usually much more serious. Injuries to the head are responsible for 76% of fatalities when dealing with motorcycle crashes many of which could have been prevented had the rider been wearing a helmet. For this reason, many states have adopted the motorcycle helmet law. The law states that every passengers must wear a helmet at all times when riding on a motorcycle. This law has created a great deal of controversy. One side supports the law, believing that it protects motorcyclists from danger and saves the economy a great deal of money. The other side argues that the law is unconstitutional and it violates our right to freedom. However, statistics show overwhelming support in favor of the motorcycle helmet law. Although wearing helmets cannot prevent motorcycle crashes, they can greatly reduce the number of deaths caused by head injury as well as lowering taxes, insurance rates, and health care costs. Therefore, the helmet law should be put into effect in every state across the United States.
According to the Governor’s Highway Safety Administration, helmet laws for motorcyclists in Missouri and the surrounding states are not consistent. For example, while everyone riding a motorcycle in Missouri must wear an appropriate helmet, Oklahoma and Arkansas have partial helmet laws. In Oklahoma, only those younger than 18 are required by law to wear them, while in Arkansas, the age limit is 21.

I have a very active lifestyle resulting in a wide variety of interests outside of the classroom. I have always had a deep life-long passion for sports. I represented my high schools varsity volleyball and basketball teams as well as partaking in an adult slow-pitch softball league throughout high school and into college. Other sports and activities I enjoy include Tae-kwon-do, soccer, fast-pitch softball, tennis, callisthenic and weighted workouts, running, hiking and biking.

(Post) Now, the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute (BHSI) statistics show four states accounted for 40 percent of bicycle deaths in 2000, With Texas as one of them. Yet, Wanchick says that "our basic position is that bicycle safety is a parents' primary obligation," adding " What hurts kids are cars and we need to be working the traffic citations out there* people who are licensed to drive cars, not kids learning to ride bicycles." (Post) Even though 10 of the largest cities in Texas have bicycle-helmet ordinances including Dallas and Fort Worth. But, Richardson Texas choose to not act on this issue, but turn a blind eye to one of the silent injuries and the prevention of it by wearing a simple helmet. The BHSI says the statistics show about 800 bicyclists die in the US every year. Plus another one in eight of the cyclists injured has a brain injury.

Sport builds similarity by bringing people to one place creating a similarity between people of things they like to do. People find similarities in other people because they give people a chance to show who they are when they support the same things.
People ride bicycles for various reasons. Some people ride bicycles for sport, fitness purposes, as a mode of transportation, fun activity, and some people ride bikes to simply relax and clear their mind after a long day. Regardless of the reason you ride, it is important to know the factors that contribute to bicycle and helmet safety. A study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34 percent of Americans age three or older rode a bike at least once in that year (“Study: 103.7 Million Americans Ride Bikes”). The importance of bicycle safety cannot be underestimated. According to the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. In 2008, children 14 years old and under
