Is anyone in your family affected by mental health issues? Statistics show that one in five adults have a mental health condition. (Mental Health America MIA) (Logos) Mental health means a person condition in regards to their psychological and emotional well being. So many people are uneducated and are unable to be educated on the topic of mental health. There is a worldwide outbreak of mental health issues in a variety of people of all ages. Unsuccessfully, not all mental health issue are now to man so, you might not know you have a mental health issue The world needs to start acknowledging the outbreak of mental health instead of discriminating against it and find ways to improve the situation. Genetic testing is done because a mental health or and condition is passed on from parent to offspring. “ Genetic testing can reveal changes (mutations) in your genes that may cause illness or disease.” ( Genetic testing) if you get this test done the experts can tell you if you were passed a genetically passed down mental health illness and/or disease. Would you not want to know that your DNA was genetically mutated and was passed down by your parents? Their is another way besides genetic testing called “genome sequencing” (Genetic testing) People use genome sequencing “when genetic testing fails and doesn’t lead to a diagnosis but a genetic cause is still suspected, some facilities offer genome sequencing- a process for analyzing a sample of DNA taken from your blood” (Genetic testing) If the experts still think that it is a genetic cause and the genetic testing fails they use genome sequencing because it analyzes your DNA. Still if we inform our society that their are two methods to see if your affected genetically, maybe they will consider getting tested. After doing research, I found out that I could a a genetically passed down mental illness. Sadly, my family is filled with mental illnesses dating back to my great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents. So when I found out about the genetic testing and genome sequencing I realized that I should get tested and see what was genetically passed down since my ancestors were alive through my family. The public being informed is going to go along way with fixing the problem of the mental health epidemic and maybe change its direction. Helping others find out if they have a mental illness through testing could improve their chance of survival and the knowledge available for that illness or
